It seems advice is mainly against as any sort of strain or pressure is adverse. You could ask yr consultant - I guess it depends on your particular condition and the size of the h hernia - is it sliding for example.

Agree could be very ill advised to do this.  I have found need to be very wary as certain movements certainly set off bad episodes with the HH and invariably then have a very uncomfortable week. The HH is a part of your digestion system poking rough your diaphragm and muscular movements can affect. Was playing golf when twisted body and was almost floored by the sharp pain. Could hardly move without excruciating discomfort and even sliding into my car seat was awful. Drove home in agony. At home pain persisted until I was rising from seated and something 'pinged' inside and as suddenly as it came on the pain was totally gone. I can only assume the HH slipped back through the diaphragm to where it should be.

Take guidance on what muscles certain exercises affect but suspect most affect the diaphragm. And as such should be best avoided. Having said all this losing weight helps and perhaps power walking or similar would be better.

Be very careful. I hurt myself with an ab machine (Yukon). I ended up selling it. Now I do free hand weights very carefully.

My best advice is to go to your GP as he/she is the best person to advice.

Whatever we as patients tell you on here is NOT best advice - so go to your GP!
