It gets better.....

Hi everyone,
I had two internal hems and a poylp removed on the 16th November. I had the cut and stitched version.
So initially there was a huge amount of swelling on the outside which shocked me as the hospital paperwork hadn't mentioned that one! Only leant from this site that's what it was.
Having a BM was very painful for the first few days but I kept well hydrated, plenty of fruit, veg and fibre and a glass of fybogel after dinner. Soft BM's are the way forward.
I never wiped with toilet paper and still don't, the shower head became my new best friend.
I had quite a lot of blood loss with BM's and sometimes in-between. No blood after week three though. I initially had a lot of mucus discharge ranging from brownish, to yellow that has now mostly stopped and when I do get it it's clear.
Consultant said pelvic floor muscle exercises..... I started on the third day, do three rounds every day and that helped pull the swelling up.
So five weeks later, no pain at all, no blood, minimal discharge, small amount of swelling which could be skin tags, not seen consultant for a follow up yet so not sure but they aren't painful as such just a little tender when I tried wiping last week hence still using shower head to clean up.
I hope my experience helps put all you recent operation folks minds at ease and you have an enjoyable Christmas, if you celebrate it that is safe in the knowledge things do get better 😁.

It does help to hear a positive result for a hemorrhoid removal. I was planning on seeing a gastro doctor to have mine removed in Jan. But was told yesterday that I have to have surgery in April so will have to wait. Do the pelvic floor exercises help with hemorrhoids?

My internal hems had prolapsed so he suggested the exercises to help pull everything back up in place.
I have no idea if they help with hems as fingers crossed I don't have any anymore 😁

would you mind telling what type of pelvic floor exercises you did? I hate asking you so many questions but have helped me more than anyone!

I pull up as if I'm trying to stop weeing and hold for the count of five, relax for the count of five and repeat for four and half minutes (I find it easier to set the timer on my phone) then I do twenty five quick pull ups. I do it after breakfast, lunch and dinner. Empty your bladder before you do them.
There are a dozen different ways to do them, these were the way my consultant suggested doing it.
After the op (I started them on day three) I found it quite hard to do and a bit uncomfortable on the botty area but now I can do them easily.

I was expecting months and months of pain after reading others experiences on here.
The first two weeks being really quite bad had me believing I was going to be no different.
I have not read many saying they did the pelvic floor muscle exercises so whether that has helped the recovery process I'm not sure. 😁

Thank you so much for your post . I get mine done end of January and am so frightened . My stomach has been playing me up think is the nerves . Do you think fiborgel is the best thing to take as I'm not sure and need to get things in for the big day . You have made me feel so much better as all I see is the bad messages. xx

Hi Julie,
I think people who are suffering and need advice come on these forums looking for support. Those that sail through the op with no issues and I'm sure there are many, have less need to be here hence all the horror stories.
Fybogel is quick and easy and definitely does the trick. At least a litre of water or squash through out the day too. You want soft....like cow poo.
I have IBS and my flair pre op was awful as was the anxiety, even my blood pressure went up.
I hope your op goes smoothly and your recovery is fast.
Sarah 😁
