It's 25 days now that I've been taking Setraline & feel worse tha ever. Should I keep going?

its 25 days since I've been taking 50mg of sertraline & today the negative obtrusive thoughts are worse than ever. I'm so very anxious & scared that this drug isn't going to work for me. I switched from paroxatine as I thought it had run its course but I'm really wishing at this moment that I hadn't made the switch. Should I give up or give it more time?

Hello - how is it going now? Have you experienced any other side effects? For me 50mg is a big dose to start on. I tried just 12.5mg and had so many side effects it was scary, including twitching and a burning bladder nevef mind constant nausea - strong headache all of which lasted into the next day. it is a powerful medication.

Hi - I hear paroxatine can be terrible to get off - how was the switch over with you? Did your gp arrange the switch eg what dose to reduce the paroxetine by and what dose of sertraline to substitute?

Hi - was the switch over quite easy? How are you doing now?

It was a dreadful switch over. My GP recommended that I stop taking paroxatine immediately & start on 50 mg of sertraline. After 3 weeks I was in such an anxious state she increased to 100mg. I am at present on 150 mg & feel so much better. If need be I will go up to 200mg but at the moment I'm happy!!

Yes I was thinking upping your dose would bring good benefits smile so glad to see you are doing so well compared to your first post...stick with the 150 and if you need the 200 so be it...being happy is the most important thing smile

Thank you Rob. I feel a completely different person. More positive. Less anxious. Going to start on a 4 week course of CBT also so eventually I may be medication free.

That's great news...I love a successful story smile I think cbt is a great thing to do as I believe medications are a great help but it's ultimately US that needs to work on changing our mindsets for the better....permanently smile

Also please look into mindfulness meditation...only takes 10 mins every day and after a few weeks you will be able to calm yourself down within seconds anywhere (even a noisy bar etc)..it's a life practice that everyone should try for 1 month to see how effective it is
