It's a beautiful day

Good morning all my hippy friends across the pond.Just got in from my first walk of the day. It is a beautiful spring morning and my leg is working pretty darn good. The birds are out singing, the squirrels are out doing what squirrel's do, even saw a big fat groundhog. I walked further than yesterday, no more cane and all is going very well with my recovery now in my 7th week. Thigh isn't so stiff this morning

( that's a good thing ) So to everyone in their various stages of recovery there really is light at the end of the tunnel.

Hellooooo. What a lovely uplifting post 😊. I'm only just out of hospital 4 days ago. When did you start going for proper little walks outside ?

Hi Joe, my very first walk outside was not very scenic, haha,I went to the grocery store and that was a three weeks. I had just stopped using the walker and moved on to using a cane for support. After that green grocer trip I began walking every day. It was just short walks at first up and down the street then increasing the distance each week. I am now in week 7 of my recovery and I really think walking is the best exercise you can do not to mention just being outside in the fresh air is good for your emotional well being. Best advice take it slow and sure. It does get better just have to be patient and don't compare your recovery progress to anyone else's.

Go for it Susan! I'm sitting waiting for a lift to take me to my consultant appointment.

Strangely feel really nervous. No idea why that is ..

Hello Susan greetings from London. Week 5+ for me and still taking 2 supports while out. Today the sun is shining and I walked along the river bank. Mostly wild fowl and a swan sitting on best with partner keeping watch

    Enjoy your day

Sounds beautiful Ann, I think my turning point came at about week 5. My walking got a lot better, my leg felt stronger and yes I do still get stiff and sore of I push the limit but even that isn't as bad as my first few weeks.

Hi Susan, so happy for you, enjoy your news hip and life.

I am just over 3 weeks post op, walking with one crutch but the stiffness is so frustrating..when will it stop restricting me taking proper steps?

I still get stiff and a bit sore but it is not as bad as the early days. After each walk or exercise routine, I do that twice a day, I sit relax and use the ice bag. I have pain meds if I need them.

Yes the first month a physical therapist came to my home 3 dAys a week. Thank goodness my insurance covered that. At the end of one monthI I continued with the exercises they gave me and just increased my daily walks to 3 times a day. Seems to be working for me.

Hi Susan , sounds like you are doing really well  there ,walking is the best thing we can do . I am six weeks post op having had a double hip replacement and I went shopping with my very kind neighbor today with one crutch . Still get abit of stiffness but going for a walk eases that . Just being out in the fresh air is good for you and the weather here in Mid Wales has been good lately , a bit colder now . You sound like a very psitive lady and I think that really helps . We live quite high up here in Wales and the thoiught of walking the hills again with my dogs is keeping me going , At 50 yeras old I should be doing these things no problem , keep up the good work Susan , well done , Ruth

Well done Ruth, after having a double hip replacement and going shopping at 6 weeks.

You will be walking your dogs in the hills very soon I'm sure.

Thanks Ruth, I really think the walking is the best exercise you can do it keeps my leg from stiffening up after sitting I just have to get up and move

Hi Kevin , it's been really hard work having two done but I was warned and it still is hard . I'm 50 so  I am resonably fit to get through it . I am lucky where we live , the roads are really quiet for walking . My daughter takes the dogs and I feel confident enough to go with her now . We have two collies as we farm and a  fab little Patterdale bitch . Patterdales are such characters ! Thay all have a lot of freedom here . What have you had done Kevin ? All the best to you , Ruth

Hi, love collies but don't know too much about Patterdales so will do some research on them.  I had a TLHR metal now 8 weeks back and ticking along nicely. Had difficult moments (am 53) same as everyone else but easier than you I will imagine . Two done, wow. Each day better and better. Very best wishes.

Hi Susan , beautiful dogs by the way ! It's the thought of taking them out on my own again that motivates me . I have my six week check next week so will find out how I'm really doing . Having two done has been pretty hard but would recomend it if it's required    , all the best Susan
