    HI Lora,

after 3 THR I can tell you how incredible ucky in to have my mobility it ha been a lot of pain recovering each time was different. I took me a t the longest over a year to finally feel well from the last one 2 yrs ago.

evey circumstance is different bone and tissue disa from OA O other

I may not be able to run a marathon but every now and then My hips let me know to slow down.

Always stay with exercises to stay Aron no maintain core strength.

Some of us hippies have had difficult stripuggles to recovery for many different reasons.

it takes time for our bones to grow and secure the components used in THR. Muscles an tendons take longe for some of us for a variety of reasons. The majority of us do get back our lives as he pain is any a memory for many.

Give your body time after all it's major surgery and most people think we'll you have a new hip you can walk and they don't realize the fight we put up to get there. It's not easy. ask for water therapy.  It helped me even afr regular therapy .

    Hi Lora,

I am scheduled for hip replacement in a couple of months. Aside from the pain and little limp, does it feel normal?

I mean can you feel that there is a prothesis, or does it just feel like part of your body?

    Does the movement feel natural?

      Hi John,

I have to say in my experience you don't realize there is a prothesis in the ho area at all as far as it feeling any different than the bone joint did. Once the joint is replaced and recovery it is moving as usual without the devestating pain of groin and hip or limp. See the components online and ask your dr what manufacturer. Then it's easy to see what they look like and helps answer some of your questions. The surgery is also on you tube. It is very precise and easily un stood and explained as they go along.

It does take time therapy & exercise to regain muscle and leg strength. It's great to have mobility back. I can not run I have both hips done and a revision. THR is the best alternative to maintaining movement .

YES  the movement feels natural, for me it has been so much better.

it will be for you too!

The only time you notice it's there while moving after rehab is when you go thru the airport and set off the alarms. If you plan on flying be sure to tell the screening attendant . Even now they still have me stand aside and do the individual search.

so there you go! GOOD LUCK!

Nice post and it resonates with my experience overall, although I am not so far along (18 weeks). I still get sore and I start limping slightly when overworked or tired. But the improvement over pre-op is night and day. I am tentatively scheduled to do my 2nd hip in late summer.

Alrighty then you know the drill. I wish you the very best on your next bionic hip!

prepare your home & your food ahead of time,  and the best thing  I ever did was wear cloths that went over my head and slip on shoes and well uh... adult diapers for those early days when we can't move quite as fast as we need to.

Soon you'll be past it all !!!!

Hi Lora. I am 9 weeks post op but I also still have a limp with pain at times. Seem so like we all heal differently and it takes time. Really seem to get more realistic advice and reassurance from other hipsters than other sources. Glad to hear that the limp is getting better. . Do you still use a cane or crutch.

My THR was in October last year, and I still limp a bit - especially at the end of the day when commuting home.

It is getting better however - day by day it gets better.

I'm 6 1/2 months post-op and still have a bit of a limp when walking outdoors. I also still have twinges of pain/discomfort. But for the most part I can feel that everything is healing in its own good time. I recently did some volunteer work, which involved a lot of squatting and sometimes standing for 6 hours at a time. I went home in awful pain each day but a warm bath helped a lot. Am about to do a temp job which involves sitting on uncomfortable seats for 10 hours a day as well as a hike to and from the train. I am pretty confident, but also grateful that my tub will be waiting for me at home each night.

      Hi,

Sounds great to hear your getting around so well. Only 6 1/2 months out.

your proof how wonderful and lucky we hippies are to have new hips once our old ones leave us in pain.

Nice to hear you have your mobility back walking like a pro. Remember not to sit to long get up and incorporate the hip exercises in your daily routine. This helped me a lot when coping with work after THR.

also let those around you and supervisor know your still heeling. You would be surprised how helpful and understanding people can be once they know .

take it easy one day at a time.

      Best wishes.

      Hope
