I got a phone call yesterday to see if I could come in for my op 5 days early so it's tomorrow and there's me planning  on few quiet days as I only finished work yesterday.  I am not a nervous sort but I think this is what is happening now............am I prepared have I got the right stuff in, my freezer is already brimming fit to bursting (hubby is great support but a rubbish cook) but do I need more pillows, I have only got 2 grabbers will I need more etc.  Sorry just having a moment here and I suppose looking forward to getting my life back but it's now turning a bit scarey......anyone else had their op done at Claremont, Sheffield on the NH? What's it like, talk about last minute questions but that's me I only start to worry last minute eekk.

I found that I fretted over the small stuff ahead of time because I had power over those things, but no control over the outcome of the op. I'm sure you have everything you need, and anyway you won't really know the extra bits that will be helpful to you until you're on the other side and living your recovery.

probably a good thing that it's tomorrow. Less time to overthink it!!

    good luck

    Suzie,

5 days, wow good luck hun, you have everything sorted, and you still have a couple of days to get straight, I had one grabber permantly tucked under my arm, I managed ok.  If you havent enough pillows use cushions, I did honest its ok.

In five days you and your life will be complete again.

Hi I think it's best not to overthink everything. I did the same filled my freezer and cupboards. I'm now 20 days post op and I go to the supermarket with my sister or daughter. I don't carry the shopping but I like to chose it. I've managed to cook meals from around my 5th day post op but to be honest I didn't have much of an appetite.

I had 2 grabbers one upstairs one down but the hospital gave me one as well.

I made sure everything I needed was at a height I could reach so my pans plates etc don't go in the bottom cupboards.

The best advice I got from someone was a cup with a lid and handle like those thermos ones you use in the car. This was a godsend when I was using my sticks to walk around the house. I use to put it in my dressing gown pocket.

I also use a stepping stool like toddlers use to brush their teeth for climbing in the shower which is over the bath. Don't try this alone though. I had my first shower one own today.

Dont worry if you dont have evwrything you can order online.

All the best for tommorow it will soon be over.

Good for you!!! You will be gaining five more days of life without the pain you have now!!! It kind of reminds me of my thoughts on having kids, we are never truly "ready", if we waited until we had everything perfect we would never have them!! Same for surgery. The last 2 months before surgery I was obsessed with getting everything ready. About 2 days prior I just gave up and decided it will be what it will be. I am 9 days post op now and I haven't needed even 1/4 of the things I "prepared". Good luck with the surgery Suzie and stay close afterwards. This forum is a lifesaver, a sanity saver and full of friends.

I had time to prepare and still didnt do as much prep as I could have.

I managed to put one grab bar in the next to the toilet the night before surgery. lol

Maybe not having things over organized will force me to recover faster??Any way all is well and you will probably gt by with what you havjust fine??

    wish you the best Suzie

Hi SUZIE I had both my knees replaced 9 yrs ago plus my right hip replaced last September all in the Claremont, Sheffield on the NHS,I found it to be an excellent hospital ,all the staff are very friendly and caring, food was really nice even though I didn,t feel like eating much after the op. I need my left hip replacing later this year and have no hesitation in returning to the Claremont if I get the chance. You sound very well prepared for your op so I will wish you good luck I,m sure you will be fine, hope to hear how you got on. Love sue
