Itchiness on penis shaft

For months now I have had an itchiness on my penis shaft, it comes and goes,  it's directly underneath the glans, there is only slight redness and dryness near the site but no or sores or lesions, it's not an STD. I used to frequent many massage parlours before the itching started and they would use baby oil on my penis, also once I used a weird looking liquid to wash my penis before a massage, I'm not even sure it was soap and it was odourless. One time I was scratching the skin broke and was a little bloody.

I visited the sexual health clinic a month ago and they told me my penis was dry, so they gave me some ointment called Emulsifying Ointment BP, it helps temporararly but the itchiness comes back after a day or if I don't wash my penis for a few days, or if I masturbate.

Also I am feeling pretty worried because I have had sex with 3 escorts since the itching started (protected penetration and unprotected oral on me) and scared I have passed something onto them. I never visit them when I am itching and I always make sure my penis is clean.

What do you think this is?

    Leonardis.

You have what is known as alanitis.  It's a fungal infection which can be cleared up using an anti-fungal cream.  I hav eit and the cream I use is called Clotrimazole (from your GP).  Is your cock head (glans) and foreskin affected.  and does it itch?

You can also buy Clotrimazole over the counter

How effective do you think Clotrimazole is?  I have been using it for 2 weeks (3 times a day) and it doesn't show any real signs of improvement. My head is still quite big and it itsces around the edge  of the glans.  Do you know if there are any alternatives.  I showed my GP my c... last Monday and he seemed to think it wasn't bad - I know differently.

There is another cream, clotrimazolehc, this also has a cortisone in it with the antifungal. Personally I thiñk the hc version is better.

Is this a prescription item?  Thanks for advice.  I will have to try something else becauuse the iching is not only 'pleasant' but it's uncomfortable and embarrasing.

Hi Jonnojohn, it is available over the counter and there is a generic form available but they might try to sell you Canesten, which is more expensive but cheaper than a prescription if you're in England

Thanks MrsMop. That's more advice than the GP can give!  It's obvious, I would imagine, that you have or have had the problem. Does it take long to clear (my GP said 2 weeks using the cream thrice daily)?  Is it a recurring problem. I'm certainly never dry (like Leonardis) and don't have casual sex. My own foreskin is loose and very retractable. Masturbation and sex have nothing to do with Balanitis anyway.. but frequent washing is to be avoided as this can be a contibutory factor.

You might want to consider treating a partner too.

Another cause of balanitis, is diabetes and of course, the list is endless!

It depends on the cause as to the length of time you have it.  I would avoid 'bubble bath'  and for that, you can read shower gel and other things, just use ordinary unperfumed soap.

They often say 'let the air get to it', so women can wear long skirts and no knickers!  It can help

My current problem is oral candidiasis [same thing] caused by oral steroids.

Itchiness on the penis is a very common issues and can be caused by many things. Often it’s a common dermatological issue, such as dry skin.  Try using a crème that is formulated for us eon the penis and to enhance its health. One with natural moisturizers like shea butter is probably the best bet.  Good luck!

Probably just dry skin man.  Try using a good penis health creme everyday.  These are made to treat and ward off a variety of skin issues down there.  There are lots of these cremes out there though.  Just make sure to get one with all natural ingredients to avoid any side effects.  Good luck.

I noticed a few days ago that around the base of my shaft was a little itchy and irritating so I decided to shave everything and see if it got better turns out it got worse it comes and goes but it's very itchy and irritating I found that showering gets rid of it temporarily until i dry off then it comes back not long after and I haven't found another way to make it stop it stays for almost 4-5 hours then goes away
