Itching !

Hi everybody,

Just wondered if anyone else had experienced an all over itch. It`s driving me mad , even the backs of my hands are itchy. I had it once before after a COPD exacerbation and at that time it was diagnosed as thyroiditis. But my doc says a thyroid test six weeks ago was okay so she doesn`t think it`s that. The only place there`s a rash is under my bust. I`ve tried Daktarin, Eumax, Teatree and E45 with no success. I`m getting so bad tempered and have been on the old prednisolone for 14 months now and we seem to blame everything on them but I haven`t seen any other mention of the dreaded itch. Anybody else out there ?

Regards to all, Shebob

Hallo shebob, Yes I've had itching and it just went. Did nothing about it except scratch. I, too, blamed steroids; maybe unfairly but who knows? No rash but very uncomfortable. This was about two months ago and it lasted for about three weeks. At the time I was taking 9.5 mgs of pred. Now on 8.5 and so far no recurrence. Hope this is re assuring but as I have no medical knowledge can't say if our itching has a common cause. Good luck. BettyE

    Hello Shebob

Like Betty I also had an 'itchy' few weeks recently and in fact had a rash on the top of my back and a few strange blotches on my stomach. I couldn't pinpoint anything specific but felt it was possibly connected with something I was eating and aggravated by the hot, humid weather. I was eating a lot of soft summer fruits and I stopped the blueberries, also the weather cooled, plus I upped my water intake to Hopefully, perhaps your's will suddenly disappear, too.

    Hi all!

Have you by any chance been eating lots of strawberries, cherries and other soft fruits? Too much vit C will do what you're describing! Not to mention residues of whatever IN the fruit!

    hello shebob.

i get very itchy skin at times, and also urticaria, i increase the dosage of antihistamine at these times, and bath with calamine lotion in the water, the calamine absorbs into the skin and helps reduce the itch, along with the antihisamine. hope yours goes soon, m. edwards.

Thanks to all for the replies. It sounds daft but it helps to know that others have had \"the dreaded itch\". What would we do without this site !

I`ll try the calamine lotion in the bath, thank goodness I have a bath-lift!

Keep taking the tablets girls ! Shebob

    Hi Shebob

You mentioned a rash under the breast, was this in the hot weather?

I used get a rash there in the hot weather even before taken the preds. But I always dust with Canesten Powder Clotrimazole 1% w/w.in the mornings. It says it's for athlete's foot and the preventin of it. In the adverts they show a runner using it to prevent sweet rashes.

I have used it for many years as a prevention with no problems.

I hope it clears up soon, so it's one less problem for you to put up with.

Bye the way I sent for the DVD and it arrived today, very quick. Only seen part of it so far, had to cook dinner.

    good luck to everyone.

    Hi Shebob.

I have had flaky skin for the past two Weeks like its falling off and flaky, I moisturise but its still the same, I do itch too, not sure if its the Steroids though, I have been on the Prednisolone since April this Year.

I bruise very easily now too since being on the Steroid's

A tip for under the bust area, to use some medicated talc after drying thoroughly and I find this does help.

I suppose Presnisolone affect's different People in different way's, I sleep well and have not put on any weight , its only been 4 Months on the 21st August that I started taking Prednislone, I do have a bit of peach fluff near the area under my ears, although I am not doing too well on my last reduction gone down 2.5mg's and in some pain.

One day I might wake up the size of a silver back Gorilla with matching body hair lol...you have to laugh about it sometimes, because PMR is not pleasant for anyone that has it.

    Regards

Hi Annie, sounds as if you`ve escaped the steroid stomach. Mine still isn`t back to normal tho` I`m only on 5mg now. I have lost the moon face and moustache so I must be thankful for that!

I`m afraid bruising is a noticeable side effect of pred.

And Hi Spammy,.Thanks for the tip about Canesten pdr clotrimazole. Went to the doc again this am after another night of itching and she said it`s thrush and gave me Canesten with Hydrocortisone But I`ll get some of the powder and keep it in reserve till I`ve run out of the cream.

Apart from all my other tablets and inhalers I now have E45, Daktarin,

Teatree cream, Eumax and Calamine lotion. I`m thinking of opening a chemist. The doc is mystified re the allover itch with no rash-even inside my ears- but thinks it may be related to some of my medication even though I`ve been on most of them for years. Ah well, never a dull moment. Regards to all fellow polys, Shebob
