Itching

I had my first outbreak second week of Jan. Took about two weeks to clear. I am now taking Valtrex once a day as suppressive therapy. I have been itchy since - inside my vagina and sometimes my labia. Sometimes it gets worse at night I find. I am under a lot of stress due to other issues. I have been seen by my gyno and she sees nothing. I went to hospital and they found nothing. I don't get it. Could this be a side effect of the Valtrex? I've been itch for past three weeks after the ob cleared. Going to gyno again tomorrow and gonna check again. I don't know what's going on. I'm so upset and scared.

More likely the result of being newly infected and your body adapting despite the meds. Shouldn't be a medication issue and the itching should subside. Presumably your docs would have noticed yeast or BV, but you can double check if you see a doctor again.

Going to gyno tomorrow again. STD PHONE LINE told me to do swab for yeast and BV. They also said maybe I need to take a probiotic....I don't know.

Yes, yeast and BV are the only other things I can think of. Yeast tends to have discharge, BV not always (though BV is less likely to cause itching). Probiotics are good! I'm taking some now to sort out a pH imbalance I wasn't even aware of.

I too am newly diagnosed with GHSV1. My outbreak was terrible. After the sores cleared up, I experienced some itching which was worse at night. I took a Benadryl caplet at bedtime, might have been the wrong thing to do, but anyway it helped greatly and the itching has finally pretty much stopped. I was diagnosed on January 10th.

I'm starting to think maybe it all is really in my head. I went out today with my kids to the mall and I guess I totally wasn't thinking about any of the stuff going on in my life right now and the itching and I didn't feel a thing. As soon as we got home it came back. Maybe it's stress? I don't know. I guess I will find out tomorrow when I go to my gyno.

Could be that, too. The more you look for symptoms, the more you're likely to find something, and sometimes your body can even manifest symptoms at will as a result of stress/anxiety. I've been stressed a few times and have had physical symptoms. Not itching, mind you. More like stomach churning, disrupted periods, etc.

I recently found out that i have herpes last month, i know the virus been in my system for a while, because I haven't had sex in a while. (Not contact down there for months and months) So since i found out, i started to

Take acyclovir, i felt that is medication is now causing the virus to flare up. I Never had symptoms before until i started taking the medication. So i stop taking it, and i feel a little better. I am now going to try certain herbs naturAl products. There are a few that supposedly works, but since we are are going to live with this forever we might as well try.

The meds should either help or not, but not make the herpes any worse. If you weren't having outbreaks (or very few) and no sex, as it sounds like, then there's no reason to even be on the meds daily. If not daily and continuously, but only for periods of time then a break, etc., that could be the problem. Outbreaks can occur after a period of daily usage that is then stopped.
