Itching

Posted , 2 users are following.

I have been using glaucoma eye drops Travatan (polyquaternium-1 preserved) and Azopt for the last 3 years. There was no problem till about 2 months back when I started itching and eruptions like urticaria. Initially I thought it due to warm bath during winters but it still continues though winters in our country have finished. Used various anti allergic medicines which have temporary effect.

Now I feel it could be due to use of above eye drops (especially Azopt) as given in its brochure. Can I have the views of the users of above eye drops if they had any similar problem with them If so, how they tackled it.

I got settled down to above eye drops after changing almost all other alternatives which did not suit me, hence I would not like to change the eye drops unless it becomes totally inevitable.

Have you been tested for  vit D or B-1 or B-12 deficiency .... can cause itching .

Try soaps without additives try using glycerine body soap or try body wash with oatmeal natural soaps and detergents. Sometimes mold in homes can build up or pollen can infiltrate the home from pets. Also a skin protectorate not moisturizer can help put a barrier on skin protection from drying out.

I have had the same issue for many years and also have put filters on my water into the house to keep out any toxins in the water such as some minerals . Chlorine .chloroforms. Etc.  Many toxins that can cause drying of skin/itching... stinging. In some cases when all else failed the doctor put me on prednisone for two weeks and totally stopped the horrific constant itching . Also the only med that helps is Hydroxyzine HCL 25 mg .

If you come up with something else let me know.

    Good luck.

Thanks for your detailed views. I am so grateful for your interest. My all tests as mentioned by you are alright. I have been using Oilatum soap (mineral oil BP 75mg/g) which is claimed to replace skin's oily protective layer which does have temp suitable effect. Similarly earlier quite some time back Eva glycerine soap also had minor benefit. I will try it again as effect of remedies does differ with change in age etc.Today I started using Olive oil soap whose effect has still to be seen. So far, I haven't used Oatmeal natural soap which I will also try in due course.

I happen to be in my advanced age where dryness of skin can possibly not be avoided due to reduction of body fat. Anyway one has to keep tackling such problem when one ages. I wish you best of luck.
