Itching

Hi ladies! I am actually only 22 so im not in menopause, but have some problems going on that lead me to believe my estrogen levels might be off, and I dont know where else to find people who can answer my questions.. This is a lot of TMI so i apologize in advance... I have been on depo provera birthcontrol for over 5 years. About a year ago I experienced my first ever issue with my vagina. I was afraid thinking that my partner cheated on me and gave me something. I was itchy and had a tear in my vaginal skin.. turned out to be nothing and was instructed to use lubricant during sex.. So I have been using this ever since but it is not uncommon for sex to be a little painful and to have spotting after.. I also have itching and irritation that comes and goes, no STDs as I have been tested 3 times this year.. I also have noticed that somedays I feel like I have to pee every hour, but sometimes its normal. it also seems like I have to try extra hard to empty my bladder fully... Another thing I have noticed is that im getting this white clumpy stuff coming out of my pores around the clitoral area. I thinks its normal secreations that are drying and then clumping up? I dont think I had this before but cant find anything about it online, ill attach a picture of what it looks like.... One time the itching got really bad so I went in to the doctor and it ended up being yeast and BV, i did the treatment and it helped a lot but not enough. still itchy. I have gone back twice since then and dont have either infection anymore.... I have made a lot of life style changes which do help quite a bit. I dont wear anything restricting, dont ride my bike anymore, cotton only underwear, toilet paper and laundry soap for sensitive skin, and I use yeast infection cream for a night when the itching gets bad which seems fend it off for about a week... the doctors are no help, they tell me everything looks normal, swab me and then send me on my way.. it takes 3 weeks to get back in but its exhausting to keep going... what do you guys think. To those who are experiencing atrophy, does it seem similar? image

Sam,
It sounds like you may have some dryness issues.. have you been tested for a UTI lately? Also have you asked if the depo shot can cause yeast/bv infections? Will your gyno test your hormone levels (with the shot they may not be accurate). You can try a vaginal moisturizer such as Replens or YES and see if that helps. Also try using coconut oil, it's a natural antifungal, just smear some around and use a small chunk internally, make sure it's pure organic though.
I'm by no means a doctor but I do suffer from vaginal atrophy but I'm also in menopause lol, some of your symptoms are the same but I'd be willing to bet your birth control may be a factor.
Good Luck!

Good Luck!!
I use a vaginal hormone but you're way too young for that.. I use the coconut oil in between my dosing schedule of hormones and I love it. If you have any problems inserting it, freeze a few chunks at a time, it melts quick, so frozen gives you a little more time. Also and it's very important, always wipe front to back after going to the bathroom, and pat dry after peeing, it's much gentler on those sensitive tissues. Don't use anything but warm water to wash the vaginal area, no need for soaps or douches, our vagina's are self cleaning.
I hope all this helps! Remember all this when you get old and hit menopause lol!

Hi Sam, please go back to your gp, and ask to be referred to a vulval dermatologist. Its possible you have either lichen sclerosus or lichen planus, where the main symptom is itching and pain.
Both have distinctive white patches on the vulva, and a dermatologist should be able to tell you what is going on
. If you do have either of these, they are thought to be auto immune diseases, ad need treating with steroid cream. I have lichen planus, and it took a while to be diagnosed.

thank you for the insight! I am going to try changing birthcontrol but will ask about a dermatologist as well

Sam,
Laura is correct. Go back and ask for a biopsy and get it diagnosed correctly right away. You will b e better off that way in the long run. You are too young to let it go. Wish my first doc had done the biopsy. I might be better instead of still trying to figure it out after 11 months. Get coconut oil, stay off of sex for awhile and yes, the birth control could definitely make some strange changes. Don't give up!

This reply won't be much help to you but I just wanted to say that I'm 23 and I am experiencing THE EXACT SAME THING. It started when I was 22, I stopped taking my pill (which leads me to believe also that it is a hormone/oestrogen issue), it's been 9 months now and I get these random flare ups of raw itching all around my vulva. And just like you, i suddenly developed this sudden sensitivity to peeing all the time! All this keeps coming in phases, and then calming again (but never disappearing) and I don't have a clue what it is. Like you, I've been tested 3 times this year for STI's, as well as thrush and BV and all tests come back negative. I also started with a small vaginal tear and was told to just make sure to use lubricant. I have also strictly followed the doctors recommendations (neutral soap, no more tights or tight jeans, cotton underwear...) and still, no improvement...And every doctor I see keeps giving me the same recommendations...For me I'm beginning to notice that I have these flare ups once a month (twice in the 9 months, they have been BAD flare ups), and when I have my period, it seems to calm down again...but then 3 weeks later, it starts all over again! If you do end up getting to the bottom of it, please please please can you let us know? I will do the same of course! but honestly, I'm beginning to give up with it all

Its good to know other people are experiencing the same thing as me, even though I wouldnt wish this on anyone! This sounds literally the exact same! only difference is that I dont get a mestral cycle at all with the birthcontrol im on.. I actually saw my primary care doctor today for an unrelated reason and talked to her about it. She gave me much more insight than my gynocologists ever did. She agreed to test my hormone levels but she said that this probably wont show anything cause of the birthcontrol. But she did say that she was willing to bet its because ive been on the shot so long. She reccomended I try switching it.. I am going to look in to it but I know that it could probably take months for my body to get used to changing so fingers crossed... I will definitely keep updates if I find out anything! If this doesnt work I am gonna look into a dermatologist like reccomended above. Please keep me updated on how you are doing as well
