Itching after herpes sores have healed. Please assist!

I had my first herpes outbreak and it was so painful. I was on antiviral meds and completed the 7 day course. I still get the muscle and nerve pain but my sores have all healed a few days ago. I was doing well for a few days and then last night I developed terrible itching. I couldn't sleep and I was up all night with a cooling cloth and then an icepack wrapped in a towel and placed between my legs to help with the itching. I don't know if this is still a part of the first outbreak, a new outbreak or postherpetic itch. I'm nervous as I had an absolutely terrible first outbreak that I was in constant nerve pain with painful leg spasms and I could barely walk. I don't know what to do. Has this happened to anyone else?

Have you been tested recently? Could you have a STI or infection? You might have something else going on if you're having an itch without any other symptoms.

Turns out it was another outbreak back to back. I'm so disheartened. I don't know if I will ever not have an outbreak.

I'm sorry to hear that. I haven't taken antiviral medication for mine but I've read about other people with more severe outbreaks having success with antiviral meds. Have you tried switching meds? I'm sure you can live without an outbreak, at least less severe outbreaks and hopefully less often. You might need a different medication. Try not to let it get you down, you're going to find something that works for you.

One girl on here had a bad outbreak and someone commented saying "get on valacyclovir until outbreak goes away. Start taking supplements that can boost immune system. vitamin c, zinc & can start taking lysine works for me but if you stop lysine it can trigger it to come back."

Maybe you can try something like this and it will help.
