Itching eye and forehead 3 months after shingles

Does anyone else who had shingles in the eye etc still suffer with terrible itching over 3 months after shingles was diagnosed?! I have tried antihistamines which don't work, there seems to be nothing to help the itching, as the medications like Lanacane, cannot be used around the eye area, The only thing that soothes it is a cold compress, but that can't be applied all of the time!! I am using steroid drops, Carmize drops and Clinitas and none of them stop the itching!! Does anyone else suffer with this? The dr just says don't touch it, easier said than done when it itches like CRAZY!!

I'm on my 3rd week with same symptoms as you, except I have a sore inside my ear and another in my nostril. Lyrica pills were working great with the pain but I still feel like bugs are crawling on my skin and scalp where the sores are. I have darker skin where sores were. Did your skin change any in 3 months?

No, I just have 2 small marks on my forehead where the rash was. I have had no pain for months, it's just the itching especially morning and .night time. It isn't so bad when I am at work as I am focusing on other things,

Do you mean Neem oil Jean? I've used that on my skin but not sure if it can used in the eye! I think it would sting like hell!

Everything stings like hell on the eyelid,, that's the problem. I did get some eye cream from M and S with no fragrance, just to prevent the eyelid from being so dry, as that would probably cause more itching! Nothing stops the itch, it seems ridiculous in this day and age that there is just nothing that helps!! I tried antihistamines but they didn't work either, as the cause isn't through an allergy.

Hello Jane,
Did you see an ophthalmologist when you had the Shingles? My Dr referred me to one and eventually got prescribed Prednisolone eye drops, which is a sort of steroid that relieves the inflammation and irritation. During the outbreak he also prescribed Zirgan eye drops, an antiviral that treats the sores, if any, on the eye. The Zirgan eye gel is pricey but is worth it since Shingles can cause irreversible damage to the sensitive nerves in and near the eye.
Thank you for your input. Although Dr's have the knowledge to cure or treat Shingles, many questions still remain.

Yes, I have lost count of the amount of times I have been to the eye s Thank you for your suggestions but there is really nothing else I can do, my next appointment is 18th July, so I will menypecialist, for the last 3 months! I went as soon as i was diagnosed and have had various eye drops, I do use Maxidex, which is s steroid drop but doesn't stop the itching. I also have Carmize drops that I can use anytime, and another gel type called Clinitas. I have put a very small amount of vaseline on my eyelid today to see if that helps, ( not the aloe vera one as that type stung!!) my next appointment is 18th July so i will mention it again but i expect he will just say "give it time" as before. thank you for your input though,
