Itching in genitals

Posted , 2 users are following.

I have had a reoccurring itch around my penis, not actually on my penis. They look like white bumps that surround my hairs and really only itch when the hairs grow back. The bumps are surrounded by red skin. The rash has been there for about 4 months now and i only noticed it after i wore very tight shorts without underwear and had not showered that day. I have not been tested for an STD and the symptoms started about 5 weeks after i had protected sex. My partner said she was clean and had been tested before.

This sounds like it is unconnected with sexual contact, particularly if symptoms did not appear until 5 weeks, and you were using protection.

So, lets see what else is going on: do you shave off all your pubic hair? And have you done this regularly for some time (years perhaps)? Never had this kind of reaction before? If you use a shaving gel or cream every time you shave, have you recently changed this from what you were previously using?

Just checking: are the tight shorts linked to cycling, or some other sports you regularly do? If you had not showered that day, the consequences of that should have cleared up long ago should it have been potentially linked to that.

If you have red skin there is obviously something causing a constant irritation. If you do shave off your pubic hair it could be something related to that. Have you had razor rash before and would you say this is completely different to that?

Other than these you have to then suspect anything that is in regular contact with the skin in your groinal region. These include soaps, shower gels, hair shampoo (should you use it at all, when showering), the washing powder you clean your clothes with, and skin cream / lotion should you apply that regularly to your groin region.

So essentially, a bit of detective work is required to puzzle out what may have caused this. Suspect anything you have recently started using in the time-frame of 5 weeks or thereabouts. The basic essential is to keep anything chemical based to a minimum in terms of contact with your genital / groinal region. When showering spend sometime rinsing away any body cleansers you have used from your entire groin area - then ensure the area is completely dry, carefully pat dry with a clean towel rather than vigorously rub backwards and forwards.

If you can answer the questions I have asked I may be able to guide you more specifically from there .....

I do shave regularly. I do not believe i started to do anything differently in that time. The shorts are running shorts, which have the material that would seemingly be like compression shorts. They were very tight and i use them to run in sometimes. It was a hot day and i did not wear underwear, so i sweat a lot. I get razor rash frequently and this seems different to me. A couple of days ago, the tip of my penis started to peel and i have started to notice what look like pimples pop up on the head of my penis. I havent had sex in a few months now, even after the symptoms started to appear and this is the worst its been. i was on antibiotics recently though so that could be a reason too.

Okay, first on the razor rash I used to do sports very regularly and did gym training 3 or 4 times a week. I started to get white skin across my entire perineum area - to overcome this I shaved the entire lower-half of my pubic hair off (I trimmed short the upper-half) and made sure I was thoroughly dried in my entire groin region after each time I showered. To overcome razor rash I started using a wet shave razor that I had been using on my face that had gone slightly blunt, and afterwards applied an aftershave balm for sensitive skin. This stopped the razor burn issues for the major part unless I took the top of a hair follicle.

The symptoms you have on the head and tip of your penis indicate you either have a severe dermatological reaction going on, or the beginnings of an genital skin condition.

At the same time I had the razor rash I was made aware that the cycle shorts and ALL other sports clothing I wore should be washed in Soap Flakes only - I then discovered Liquid Soap Flakes that are available from most supermarkets under their own brand name. The good thing about the liquid is that you use it in your washing machine instead of normal washing powder - also, NEVER use fabric conditioners or other such additives that you put in with your washing.

I would suggest that it is essential for you to wash all your sports 'kit' and all underwear in Liquid Soap Flakes, if you have a 'sports towel' that you use after showering following sports / training activity then wash this in the Liquid Soap Flakes too. Essentially, what you likely have with the frequent razor rash is several things having an accumulative effect and creating the conditions for the rash to occur.

Unfortunately, while the issues with the tip of your penis peeling and with the pimples appearing on the head of your penis may have originated from a similar or same accumulative effect, this is most likely a to be an actual skin condition.

I would closely monitor the situation on the entire head and foreskin area of your penis in the next few weeks, what I would recommend is that if these symptoms persist or worsen you seek a consultation with a Dermatologist, and preferably one that deals with Genital Health conditions. Some of the larger Walk-In Sexual Health Centers and GUM Clinics will have such specialists if you would rather not get an appointment via your Regular Doctor / GP.

The image does not show any thing clearly. So, here are the essentials:

get the hygiene regime right for your entire groin region (detailed in previous response)

only wear shorts and underwear next to your skin that have been washed in liquid soap flakes

give your pubic hair a 'shave holiday' until this clears up ....
