Itching may cause insanity!

Posted , 1 user is following.

I got my herald patch a couple of weeks ago but it spread quickly. i was only diagnosed yesterday after having seen the doctor 3 times. i am lucky in the sense that the rash (at the moment anyway) is only on my chest and stomach...but the itchiness is other worldly and getting more intense by the day!

all the websites say \"may cause mild itching\"...mild my arse! im constantly gritting my teeth because the itchiness is actually unbearable, especially at night. i am taking antihistemines, smothering myself with calamine lotion, and have steroid/hydrocortizone cream the doc gave me to use twice a day. so far none of the above are making a noticeable difference and im only getting a couple hours sleep a night.

i am in the middle of writing my final year dissertation, so this is a major distraction. (plus i bought a gorgeous low cut dress for my summer ball but as my cleavage area is absolutlely disgusting right now im thinking i may have to rethink my outfit plans...this makes me sad!)

but seriously is there anything else i can be doing to ease the itching? coz frankly after 2 weeks of this im so frustrated im ready to kill people, i cant handle the idea of another month or more like this!

thanks,

nicky xx

Hi Nicky, just read your post and you have my sympathy. I don't have pr but my 17 daughter probably has. We are waiting for confirmation of diagnosis which we should get tomorrow night. I wrote about her experience under the heading 'our experience' if you want to read about what has happened to her.

I asked her what you could do to help the itch and she recommends...

A shower which is as cold as you can cope with.

Use aloe vera soap, we bought it in Holland and Barrett.

Take antihistimane tablet as often as is safe.

As I said in our posting, Jennifer is sure that sunbeds are clearing this illness up for her. She first had herald patch about 5 weeks ago, rash started 3 weeks ago and the first improvement was last Thursday after about 4 visits to sunbeds. First three times she was under for 3 mins and then every other day she goes for 6 mins.

    Hope this helps.

i will definitely try the sunbed route...could use a tan anyway smile

just out of interest, i am very pale, is it ok to put suntan cream on the rash? i may burn if i dont use any at all, but then i wanna be careful what i put on it. altho i suppose for 3 minutes, how bad can i really burn?!

shall be buying some aloe vera soap tomorrow.

thanks so much for your advice x

Hi Nicky, my daughter is also quite pale and was fine with just 3 mins. She didn't put sunscreen on.

Hope it helps speed up your recovery.
