Itchy

so I'm new to being a diabetic. but lately I've been having some really bad itching episodes. they come and go. they can be on my legs, feet, and hands, oh and it gets to my manhood(well the side of the boys) is that a normal thing. I've read that when sugar can be high that's when you can be itchy. again is that normal.

Hi Jack, yes this can be diabetes related. I assume you are a type 2, what are your blood glucose levels. In general diabetics have to be vigilant about taking care of skin, especially at the extremities. However its most important to manage the underlying cause.

they range from 150-160. I haven't really been watching what I'm eating. I know I need to tighten up on that and take my metformin correctly. thank you.

So I guess that 150-160 is from self testing using a device? If that is right after meals its ok. If it is routine throughout the day, or fasting, it is high. Low carb, exercise, and meds if needed. That's basically the solution.

I don't understand your numbers, are you abroad. Here a reading of 25 would be a cause for concern if you not seriously ill by then. I use mmol/ltr.

I usually forget to check my sugar after dinner. so that's usually the results in the morning when I wake up after taking my meds at night.

That being the case go get an A1C blood test from doc. Thats an important number to know

Yes I have this problem, and it is distressing sometimes. You are right about high blood sugar over time being one of the possible causes. Have you spoken to your GP or diabetic nurse about this, if not then you need to see them. I have worked hard to get my numbers down by diet, this with increased metformin is helping, I keep a diary of numbers pre-meal which I will show my diabetic nurse when I see her in January. I cannot say which medication or creams can help you, see your GP about this.
