itchy ears, bit of infection but dont think it is..also may have ear problems furter down into canal

had itchy ears for about a year now, didnt seem to bother me  as much a year ago, but past few months it has got worse.  ive been to the doctors and he gave my antibiotics for the inner part of my ear;as he said it is infected in my right ear and a bit of earwax in both.

i know it is not the wax doing it as ive used olive oil ear drops for ages now but it hasnt worked.. so now doc is trying me on Optimize ear spray!! think ive had it before, but it is SO COLD!! dont know if it's meant to be that cold, so ive put the spray in between my knee and calf to warm the bottle up to try later otherwise i wont be able to use the spray. sad running out of ideas of what coud be wrong... my brother had problems with his ears as a youngster n woud be very upset if people shouted in his ears which has led me to think it could be generic?? i have a very 'weird voice' and ive always heard my voice in a deep, and husky manner so maybe i have something wrong with the ear tubing in my ear or the canal?? i dont know but also as ive always had ear phones maybe the wax has been building up for ages?? either way if i sort it now i wil have better hearing in the future.

Hi Ms Trigga, sorry to hear about your ear problem .If you haven't had any success with your personal physician you should consider seeing a ENT for a more entailed examination.

Hi, one of the biggest causes of itchy ears is cleaning your ears, particularly if using cotton buds. Your ears are supposed to have wax in them and things like cotton buds, ear plugs and ear phones can remove the wax. When this happens the canals get red and irritated. This gives you the sensation that there is something in your ears that needs removing and so you clean them. It becomes a vicious circle. If you do clean your ears, the best thing to do is to only clean them once every 4-6 months. It will kill you if it is a habit, but your ears will settle down after a few weeks. Using creams like Kenacomb can help stop the itching and irritation until your ear canals are covered in wax again. If you think there is a wax build up, see your doctor to have it removed. They remove the lump of wax without taking the wax lining your ear canals.

Often you have to put wax softener in your ears first so that the wax is easy to syringe smile

Could it be eczema? My ears itch when it's flaring up and I often get an infection as the eczema has inflamed. Getting any water down your ears however small can irritate and cause the eczema to kick off. I now wear earplugs in the shower, when swimming etc and it helps. As for optimize try higher up between your thighs. It's warmer than your knees ..

It took a while for the diagnosis. It was the ENT specialist who eventually diagnosed it. Prior to that I'd been told it was due to wax etc
