Hi, I've had a dry, slightly itchy, red patch on my collarbone for 3 weeks now. It started small and has slowly grown larger. I put 1% hydrocortisone on it for a few days with no luck. Then, thinking it was ringworm, I treated it with Lotrimin (Clotrimazole 1%) for a week with no changes so then I started treating it with prescription Ketoconazole 2% cream for 2 weeks and it still hasn't improved. What could this be?! Please advise and thank you in advance!

After doing some more research, i realized I think it may be pityriasis rosea because i have several small red spots on my stomach and chest. Any treatment recommendations?

I think its eczema. Possibly caused by stress?? You would be feeling under the weather with pityriasis, and you havent mentioned this. It doesnt look like the "herald" patch that comes first with PR. Clotrimazole and ketoconazole wont help . You may need a prescription steroid cream to get it under control. The 1% you can buy often isnt enough.

If its raised and scaly then you may be right about PR but if its flat then I think eczema. Treatment is similar for both conditions. Steroid cream to stop the itch and redness then application of dry skin cream daily. One with colloidal oatmeal is very good. Aveeno or Cerave are excellent. Dont wash the area, just a quick spray with cool water is enough. Try to keep cool. if it is PR and the itching becomes intolerable then you can take an antihistamine once per day.PR will eventually subside but may take a month or two. Eczema may continually crop up in patches anywhere. Dont continue to itch and be unhappy....do see your doctor.
