Itchy shins

Hi, I've had severe itchy shins for months now.. Mainly at night, I can't help but scratch them until they are burning.. Has anyone else with RA had the same thing as I'm not sure if it's ra related??

Hi Debbie, I have burning and itchy feet and hands due to inflammation but not my shins. In the past I've had hives which itch and itch until I have to scratch but when I do they burn dreadfully and come up in welts. It could also be nerves as I have a tingling itch on the backs of my legs which settles down when I scratch them.

Either way you will get a better answer from your rheumatologist as to what is the cause. Good luck.

Do you take plaqineil? I did and it made me itch like crazy. Doc finally took me off of it and put me down as allergic to it. You might examine the side effects of any meds you are taking and see if they make you itch.

I have suffered with itchy shins and elbows.  It has been put down to a side effect of anti-TNF medication.  I have been prescribed a steroid cream and an emollient cream.  The steroid cream works a treat.  It cleared up the skin problem very effectively.  I now use the emollient daily and the steroid cream immediately the itch starts.  It soon gets it under control.  As is often the case, the itching and the resultant horrendous looking skin made me despair! Then the steroid cream starting working almost overnight. I always wish I could bring myself to go to the doctor before it all gets out of hand!!  But I never learn! I hope you find a solution quickly Debbie. Don't scratch! (Easier said than done)!
