Itchy skin without rash for a year and a half now, bald patch on back of head. HELP ME.

I've been experiencing itchy skin all over, initially beginning with just my scalp (suddenly and intensely), for about a year and a half now. No rash. It doesn't itch everywhere all at once; it seems to travel around my body with no rhyme or reason. For the most part, it's usually a mild itch, but it does sometimes get severe. My scalp is the biggest problem area; there's almost always a mild itch all over, but I frequently have tiny spots on the back and top of my head that randomly start itching super intensely for anywhere from 10 seconds to 10 minutes. About 4 months ago, I noticed that a bald spot was developing on the back of my head, an area where I get the most intense of itches. I don't believe it's due to me scratching it, as I try not to touch it as much as possible. I also have no history of hair loss on either side of my family.

I've seen a dermatologist 4 or 5 times since this all started, but due to the fact that there isn't any visible rash, all he does each time I go in is tell me to keep using dandruff shampoo and moisturizer (which hasn't helped in the least). Allergy medications haven't helped either. I'd never experienced anything like this in my life up until a year and a half ago. I'm a 29-year-old male. Please help me figure this out.

I used to get a really itchy scalp which made me scratch for ages and then I would get lumps. I was given antihistamine and dandruff (coal tar) shampoo too. It worked a bit at the beginning but the itching and sore lumps kept coming back and the shampoo stopped working after a while. I was then recommended Moo goo milk shampoo at my pharmacy, it is a really mild shampoo which was made for itchy scalps. Most shampoos can have harsh chemicals or preservatives which can irritate a lot of peoples scalps, this shampoo is so mild it can be used on babies. I always recommend it when people have scalp issues and I have known a lot of converts. If you use it every day for a couple of weeks then however often you normally wash your hair after that it should make a difference. It is a massive bottle and lasts for ages.

Awesome, thanks! I'll definitely check out the MooGoo Milk shampoo. At this point, I'm willing to give anything a shot.

Hi there. I too suffer from itching and no rash. It can become unbearable at times.

You should evaluate your diet.. I noticed that if I drank peppermint tea and had anything caffienated like a coffee not long after would trigger my itching.

Also certain water can trigger it for me... If you didn't know you can get hard or soft water dependant on where you live.

Mine can trigger through stress and getting too warm also. I get it mainly on chest and stomach, but will go to my arms and legs if it's a severe episode.

Its worth having a blood test to check your liver levels.

Hey man. Thanks for the response.

I've actually already tried changing up my diet, and, unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the issue.

I do stress out A LOT. I know I need to get a better handle on that. Maybe meditation or something like that might be worth trying.

And yes, I will definitely talk to my doctor about potential liver problems. After doing a little research, I've found that I am indeed experiencing other symptoms besides itchy skin (fatigue, trouble sleeping, body pains, and difficulty concentrating) that may suggest that something is wrong with my liver.

Stress is a bit of a silent killer. Not too many people understand the impact of stress on the bodily functions.

What I'd suggest is, evaluating any causes of stress. Sometimes this is literal, like you hate your job... Or it can be 'a lack of something' in your life... I'm prone to stress, mainly through being quite passionate about life, so seeing all the crap around me and often get to me.

Something I found invaluable, was getting out the house, excercise.... All things I neglected to a point of never wanting to do that stuff. But once I did it, I felt energised... Stress comes from negative energy, so you need an avenue for that to escape. A balanced life is important... I'm still figuring balance for myself!!

Like you Im always fatigued and get poor sleep everynight and we all know how important sleep is.

Well we're all in isolation, so you got the time to figure it all out.

      All the best
