ON April 2014

i got my very 1st yeast infection they gave me diflucan to take for a day the burning inside had went away but the itch REMAINED i went back and they found nothing(i kept going back without any solution given) until they gave me a pass to go see a specialist (A year later though!)We actually had our appointment over the phone 1st and she said it was eczema she gave me clobetasol to apply 2 times a day but IT MADE it worse my vulva started to peel, it was red 10x itchier and just ugly.I emailed her right away and told me to stop using it, so then we had our appointment so she can see what was going on.She did a swab on the red skin and it was yeast ( i guess clobetasol was a reason why i got it) so she gave me difuclan for a week to take the redness went away, but my anus was still red (BUT MY VULVA AND ANUS WERE STILL ITCHY)   i went back to see her, she did another yeast culture/swab and found nothing this time.I was fed up so i mentioned a biposy, she said  this could possibly be Lichen simplex chronicus  and that 1st yeast infection might of triggered the non stop itching (the yeast infection i had a YEAR AGO)She gave me ANOTHER OINTMENT to take

Im tired of these dam ointments she even prescribed me anti depressants to take at night.

The ointment is called PROTOPIC OR Tacrolimus. It seemed to help A BIT but lately i just feel uncomfortable not sure if its the side effects (1st week of using it about to go on 2nd week). After looking online i found 2 girls who had the same problem NON STOP itching and used protopic and the itch vanished so i had some hope it would work for me. But now i dont, know im ready to throw the towel if this doesnt work i dont know what to do anymore

wish i could get hit by a train this is so depressing! just want my life back

Hi Jade ! I hace been diagnosed with LSC two and a half months ago after months thinking I has reocurrent candida I was given betametasone that worked for three weeks and now I am on antihistamínics and protopic .I saw you were using protopic How long did it take you to help with the LIchen simplex? Are you in any other medications? Are you itching free now?I have been con protopic for eight days and I am still not having relief ,justo yesterday I had less itching but I took some cockies for dinner and I think they made me flare .

I would be very grateful if you can answer me I am feeling alone and depresed with this .

Hi. I have a few questions for you,

Why did the itching is? Did a Yeast infection trigger on? Does your Skin look normal or its dry and scale? I ended up going with a dermatologist and she told me I do not have LSC. She prescribed me Doxepin (anti depressant) and it helps like antihistamine .

It has helped very much with the itching. I stopped using protopic although it did help a little . I used protopic for a couple months, it started to kick in after like a month. I recommend you getting an allergy test to rule out any foods you might be allergic to, doctors say it has nothing to do with itching but everything we eat must always have reactions to our bodies and a biopsy on you vulva

If you haven't already go with a dermatologist or keep seeing different doctors most of the time they always misdiagnose us. I did that for a whole year until I found my dermatologist who finally helped. Today I can finally go out without the ointments in my purse in case of a flare. I wouldn't say I'm itch free but I'm close to it. I do have flares when my period is coming

(which makes me think its hormonal)

but I usually use some sarna lotion -Anti itch- steroid free. I wish you the best of luck!

Also try baking soda baths, or put baking soda all over your vulva ( like if it was baby powder) and sit around for 30 minutes in your room or where ever in your under wear (it will burn) then wash it off when you shower,Someone on here recommended it and it helped her itching stop. Also stop using any scented soaps please and try using only warm water on your vulva and use 100% cotton underwear and towels again I hope you find what helps you!I know how you feel feel free to ask me any questions!

    Hi Jade!

Thank you very much for your quick answer. You can not imagine how gratefull I am.All started some reocurrent candida infections after taking antibiotics for four months .I have other chronic health problem called interstial cystits and they gave me a lot of antibiotics thinking it could be bacteria related. The antibiotics destroyed my inmune system and my vaginal and intestinal flora and I developed chronic candida. I got rid off it with some repeated natural and traditional treatment and strict diet , but then I started having intermitent itching in an area of my vagina , just in the top of my labia mayore .At first I thought it was still a low level of candida and I controlled it by using an oil (yeast rescue ) that my ND had given me for candida so I was sure I was having a low level of vaginal candida as flares lasted like three or four days and did not come untill 15 days latter.,Then at the end of february I got a flare that did not subside , I asked my gynecologist for some vaginal cultures, they tested dor everything several times and all was negative and  then I was refered  to a dermatologist that inmediatly diagnosed my with Lichen simplex chronicus. I think I have had it since november when I had some itch in my annus that I had not related to this. I have an area of about 1cm  in both sides  of my labia mayore that have a linchenification That is where the itch started and is more intense and I notice it is very dry.  The rest of my vagina is just a bit more dark and maybe more dry but nothing that a gyno would detec. In fact the first dermatolgist I visited told me I had nothing .This second one is sure I have lichen simplex and gave me betametasone that worked for nearly a month , but when I started to spare the days of using it I had a flare .She then added me an antihistaminic that controled the itching for about 15 days more and then I had this last flare that is lasting too much. I ma really happy that you are now nearly itching free. Do you think the doxepin helped you the most? My derma also told me about an antidepresive prescription in case I would not get relief but I would prefer having a biopsy and some alergy test before because I would like to know the root cause if it is possible. Have you noticed that you flare when you eat gluten or sugar? I think I notice an increase of symptoms but it is a delayed reaction sometimes even four or five days later so I am not very sure if it a casualty. The thinng is  I had been gluten , sugar  and diary free for years because of my other health problem (the interstial cystitis) as it is an autoinmune condition and these foos cause inflamation  and just last year reintroduced gluten  in small amounts so who knows if it can be having  an influence. So the protopic started working about a month into it? That is encouraging as I have been on it for eight days and I do not see much relief , in fact sometimes I think oit itches even more. I ma so glad that i met you, I felt so alone with this .I wil be waiting for your answer.

You're more than welcome I know exactly how it feels to be helpless and depressive because of this condition, Since you mentioned your skin is dry I would advice you to keep using protopic, I felt the same way the first few days, Also at night time is it worse ? Try wearing socks on your hands so you won't scratch at night. If it is true that you have LSC you must stop the itch scratch cycle. But I definitely advice you to get a biopsy done on the spot were it's dry and itchy. I also got this because of a yeast infection, at first I thought I had overgrowth candida in my body so I did a diet no sugar no wheat nothing but it didn't help I also took heavy doses of natural antifungals along with probiotics, you should give probiotics a try too, I've heard it has helped some women with the itching as well. I always try to pay attention when I eat sugars and wheat but i can't tell if it makes it worse or not but I try not to eat as much as I use to. By the way I was also on an ointment called clobetasol before I got on protopic I didn't use it for long since I got a yeast infection on the area where I would apply it got scared so I stopped it and I moved on to protopic, but I've heard alot of good things about clobetasol you should mention it to your Dermo. Try your best to manage the itching and hope for the best, the ointments should help recover the skin where its dry but like I said get a biopsy done asap, and it could be that you're sensitive to wheat or other foods. And yes I do feel like out of all the ointments I tried Doxepin has helped the most so far

      Hi Jade!

I am having an apoinment with a new dermatologist con 31th and will ask him about the biopsy .I am going to follow with the protopic Yesterday and today I have not had a lot of itching ,but today muy period arrived and I usually notice that while on my period the itching dissapears This is another thing that made me believe that it should be candida as candida is calmer when you get your period.

I already asked muy dermatologist about clobetasol but she thought se should try before the protopic.I am going to go to an alergologist to be tested again for alergies and will probably visita a gastreontologist because I think muy intestine is not un a very good state .I am taking probiotics daily and I hace justo started a detox program with my ND so I hope I can solve this once and for all. I will inform you how things go .

      Muy best wishes

Hi Jade. I've been reading a lot of ladies on this site having problems so I decided to give my experience in the hopes it will be of some help.   I had a similar problem to you (I'm 55) and I had all sorts of diagnoses from various doctors and nothing they prescribed helped.  Then I came down with gastro-enteritis and couldn't eat for around 5 days: and the horrible painful itching downstairs cleared right up!  That was my first clue that I was probably sensitive to some food or other.  I did an exclusion diet, slowly re-introducing different foods, and I found that one of the main triggers to the itch was whenever I ate potato!  I'd never even had a problem with it before, but it seems that as I've gotten older, I can no longer tolerate it.  I cut it out of my diet entirely, along with it's plant "cousins" - I found I get a painful itch if I eat any of the Solonacea family, including: potato, chilli, tomato, eggplant, capsicum (I believe they're also called bell peppers?) and tobacco. If I occassionally accidentally eat one of this diverse family, I find that an anthistamine can relieve the symptoms now I'm not overwhelmed by eating them every day.  I hope this helps you - best of luck!

Thank you for your post! On Thursday I had potato fries which I haven’t had in forever and that evening I wanted to die. The itch was unbearable! My friend has the same unknown condition and she advised me to moisten a facecloth in a warm water/apple cider vinegar. 1tsp apple cider vinegar to a cup or so of water. It soothes it almost immediately. And I took a antihistamine. Helped me a lot. Our ph must be messed up and the diet seems to trigger flare ups in my case.

    Dear All,

I am so grateful to find this forum. I have been suffering from itchy labia majora and around the outer parts of my anal passage area. The itch gets worst every month before my period usually. The pain also in my vaginal area is unbearable. I notice i get an itch after drinking heavy of alcohol. Especially red wine. I am so embarrassed. It is recurring thrush but i am not sure if it was anti biotics that has triggered it. I am now taking pro biotic supplement 50 billion with 12 live strains of bacteria. I abstained from gluten and wheat. But the wine seems to make me itch down there. Also stress is another trigger. Up to today my doctor have no idea what is going on with me.

      PLEASE READ THIS LADIES!

Please have your doctor test you for Lichen Sclerosus!!

I suffered for years with the itch and medications that didn't work.

Saw a new dr 2 years ago. One look and she knew immediately what

it was. Prescribed Clobetasol. 05% ointment...miracle cure. LS is an

autoimmune disease that affects the tissue of the vulva and

surrounding areas. No cure but it is very manageable with the

proper treatment! I now use my ointment maybe once a month.

Can now live a pain free itch free life! Wish you all the best of luck!

OK. I have undergone extensive antibiotic treatment for Lyme disease. Two years later, after a medical abortion I began to develop weird issues with my breasts and my vagina. First of all, I get inflammation in my breasts whenever I wear a bra. The mammogram is negative.

Second, I have been tested for all STDs and infections and am CLEAR. However, my anus, vulva, labia are itchy. It SEEMS my own bodily fluids irritate me. I have quit all sugar. I use Young Living Thieves oil with some relief....and occasionally a baking soda douche/suppository. My GP and OBGYN have given up as has the local Health Department. I want to die, so any suggestions are appreciated. Right now we are trying a 7 day trial of Diflucan, because I have a history of intestinal candida.

I had the same antibiotics and reacted very badly to them. My itch got worse and worse. It throws your intestinal flora off a cliff! Ask your doctor if you can stop

Mine ended from drinking water throughout the day.  Realized it was due to simple dehydration and flushing myself out.  Itch was GONE in one day!  Not drinking enough causes everything in your body to be concentrated especially your urine, your organs and female tissues need Water.  The creams can have bad side effects and only stopped the itch temporarily for me.  Drinking plenty of water finally ended that nasty itch for good!
