Hey all my fellow hipsters

I am a week post op from my second THR an this time l am extremley itchy where my wound is. It was not as bad as this with my left leg but its constantly itchy and its annoying. Plus l have slept a lot more after this op l just need to lie down and l drift off l again was not as bad with my 1st one.

Its crazy how the same op can be so diffrent in seperate legs .

Yes it is really annoying!!!! But shows you are getting better actually, and healing! Can you gently rub over the dressing, I found this helped a little....Run some cold water on your feet otherwise for distraction! x

Laura, so sorry about the itch, as that can be VERY annoying! Is the dressing still on? For the first two weeks I had a dressing that I was not supposed to remove. Does your doctor's office have any suggestions?

I am amazed that you fall asleep so easily. I had to work hard to get as many as 7 hours a day of sleep, and often didn't get it. Being asleep would have been such a great distraction from how horrid I felt those first weeks.

    hi Laura

so true. ...it is definitely different from the 1st one. ..

I think that one of the reasons you sleep more is that now your body needs more energy to heal ...your 1st hip and now the 2nd

    one. ..

    do you have staples?

usually itching is a sign of healing ...

sounds like you are doing great

    big warm hug

Mine was very different in the same leg, just 10 weeks apart !

Also had more itching of the scar area on the secone one.

I have just been given the OK to 'experiment' with how far I can go - he says push it as far as I want to without pain, socks, shoelaces, etc.

I have been out driving my car for the first time in 3 months .......... and walking without any sticks at all ............ wow, it seems an age, but there is a life after THR !!!!!

I have dissolvable stiches and l still have a dressing on. I tht the 1st leg l recovered faster but maybe l am just being impatient. I was driving 3 weeks after the 1st one yet l have not been out the house yet with this one. It was only the 15th feb so l am just being impatient but the amount of sleep l am getting is mental l don't ever sleep a full 6 or 7 hours just 2hrs here 2 hrs there all through the day and night. I can walk without aids already never used a stick but l have not walked a long distance. This is what l should do go out a walk around the estate with my hubby see how l get on. I am hoping to be back at work begining of may that will be just over 6 months for the 2 hip replacements. Does anyone think that to long to have off? Xx

I have just driven for the first time in 4 months, and I am now at last getting afull night's sleep as I can at last get on my two sides, and am not constantly running to the bathroom.

I have been walking over 3 miles, but it was a struggle - I am much weaker than I was the first time around, I guess because I started at a lower physical point.

Workong - not too long at all - I am signed off to the end of March, so that will be 22 weeks (5 months) from my original operation, and 12 weeks from my revision.

I don't think it is too long for two THR's! Hopefully you will be very strong and feeling great by the time you go back to work. It's okay to be impatient, in fact that even shows that you have some energy. I didn't even have enough energy to be impatient at ten days post-op!
