IUD calcification

I hope this is the right place to post this. I presumed I was approaching the menopause at 44. I seemed to be bleeding most days, not having my usual periods and had a funny smelling /looking discharge. My smear test/tests came back normal, I’d been the Doctors with a few concerns, I’d only loose blood when I was urinating, my pads stayed clean-almost like a blockage. I got told tilted uterus, age, etc and sent packing.
I thought I’d go my family planning and swap my copper IUD for the pill, regulate my periods as I was sick of always loosing blood and discharge.
The nurse tried to take the IUD out, my third one over 20 years by the way, and she couldn’t. I then got referred to a doctor the week later. I went home and pulled at my IUD, hard. It came out with a huge stone attached to it, the same shape as the opening of my cervix with sharp edges. the strings also had this on. I googled- this is calcification of the IUD.
Instantly all my symptoms stopped. No bleeding, discharge or smell, which the calcification strongly smelt of. I know for a fact the doctor would have referred me to hospital as she wouldn’t have been able to get my IUD out.
My life has been on hold sexually, always washing etc, etc. Today is the first day in a long time I’m not wearing a pad.
I just wanted to make women aware as we’re not told of this complication. If you have similar symptoms and have a copper IUD-this could be you.

Thank you for that information. I have the mirena coil fitted to stop my periods completely. I have a lot off other health issues, so could do with NO painful periods anymore. I am not in any sexual relationship but am told I am perimenapusal. I have hot flushes and some spotting. I am abit concerned that you should get your water works sorted as your may have a urine infection that may now be a kidney infection, I know the latter rather well, so please get it checked. There is a site on Facebook, making friends with the menopause, you might find that helpful. People find taking magnesium supplements are good but before you start anything, go and see a caring GP, take good care of yourself and get protected if you want sex. There is help out there x
