Hi i am a 20 year old girl who has had problems over the last 5 years with my periods. They are constant when i am on no contreception, i have been on every type of contreception to help with the pain and how regular my periods are. Nothing has yet worked or helped.
I have also had a scan to see if it was ovarian cysts but the scan was clear. Also had a smear test that too was clear.
I am currently on the mirena coil that was put in by my gynecologist, but after only having it in a week i am AGAIN in severe pain. This is making me depressed i am meant to be studying at university and it is a constant distraction and i feel like i cannot live my life the way a 20 year old student should be able to!
please could anyone help me or give me advice as i have no idea what is going on with my body and my mom believes i have endometriosis...?? i just need an answer as its draining..! Thanks

First of all a scan will not show endo. You need to push for a referral to see a gynea.
Dont let your gp fob you off. Mine did for 7 years and eventually i said i want to see a specialist. I did and i told him i thought i had endo. He booked me in for a diagnostic laparoscopy and low and behold i had stage 4 endo.
I had it removed via diathermy but it came back. I just recently had a huge vaginal cyst removed that also turned out to be endo.
If the coil is not helping after 3 months i would say get it removed. It does not work for everyone BUT you need to give it at least 3 months to kick in.
I had the mirena and bled every day for 6 months. In the end they took it out.
I am not currently on any treatment as i have found that the (27) different ones i have tried have not worked for me. Including fake menopause twice.
Keep at it hun, dont give up and keep hoping for an answer. Take each day as it comes and listen to your body. If it tells you to stop and rest, then stop and rest. If you are working, tell your boss whats going on with you so that they can help you.
Dont suffer on your own.
Feel free to message me if you want to.
Hugs for you xxxxxx

Iv had the coil in now since the 31st December 14. Still getting massive amounts of pain but recently stopped bleeding. Giving it till the end of the month then I will decide what to do I think
how did you have an idea you might have endo?
Thank you again! X

I looked up all my symptoms on the net, i fit nearly all of them but my first clue was a sharp, unbearable pain low down in my left hip area, you know the bit your appendix lives in? Thats where it hurt. A lot! I couldnt stand up with it. It would hit and i would literally drop to the floor.
It took a long time to get a diagnosis, 7 years but i got there in the end.
DO NOT let them tell you that you have irritable bowel syndrome because they will!
I wish you lots of luck in your journey to diagnosis, it can be a rocky path but you can always chat to me if you need someone to scream at. I will private message you my email addy xxx

Does your pain get worse with your period? I have been in constant pain since December but have extreme pain during my period for 15 months, it's so bad that I cant stand up and have to take time off work. My gynae told me to constantly take my pill and have no period until im ready to conceive, I dont know how this will help!
Hoping to find a new gynae!!!

I went through all this between the ages of 18-19. I have Endometrosis, diagnosed as of last year.
I started puberty early- in the British Academic year 4- and menstruating was fine up until I hit senior school. My iron levels dropped, pain was constant and periods irregular and pretty constant. The pill never helped- no matter the strength of dosage- and being young at the time I didn't want to go through contraception simply because I felt that my image would change, besides the pill hadn't worked so why would anything else?
One doctor suggested I go for a scan which I was thrilled about, however an external for ovarian cysts revealed nothing and, being 13 and not sexually active at the time they passed me over for an internal. It was also considered too traumatic to have a smear test. I was sent home with nothing.
Through my teenage years it got progressively worse, passed over my doctors as an inconvience, another teenager that didn't understand the knowledge of what pain was until I broke down in a doctors surgery reception area- demanding that I had everything removed so at least I might be able to live a semi-normal life- and finally managed to get sent to a gynecologist.
I went through a laboscopy- the only conclusive way to get diagnosed with endometriosis- and thus got diagnosed and the adhesions removed. The surgeon that placed a mirena in. However I have had it in a year and had nothing but severe pain, and would liken it to pulling- as if the whole of your womb is trying to squeeze down the cervix. I then had to restart the labourious process of attempting to get the mirena removed, now I am on a different injection GnRH, to essentially stop my cycle. That has worked.
In short. A scan won't show endo, you need to push for a referral. In the short term ask the doctor for Naproxen or something similar for pain- only thing I found that could help (i'll warn you it was only a slight help but better than the normal stuff). Try and get the mirena removed- I have heard of many that find the treatment doesn't work for them and it is only covering up what is actually happening.
Good luck. big hugs. Message me if you need to. xx
