IVC filter before

Back again. I got a second opinion when my original surgeon suggested a metal on metal. I went for another opinion and am scheduled for Feb for a ceramic, poly one. This Doctor has suggested I might need an inferior Vena cava filter before I have a hip replacement because I has a DVT in that leg post ankle surgery a few years ago. I am scheduled for an evaluation with the vascular doctor. Question -has anyone else experienced this? Did you have a permanent or removable one? Was it inserted on the day of your hip surgery or before? How long a recovery before the hip surgery? Anything I should know before I sign up for this too? Thank everyone in advance. You are all such a valuable source of information and comfort. Merry Christmas and happy Holidays.

Mary,
I can't comment on the full question you have asked, but I can tell you from my research on THR that metal on metal is statistically a bad choice for female patients. I would be listening to the second opinion.
Best of luck.

The cautions with normal THR surgery we are prescribed blood thinners, compression stockings and a hospital pump air a plastic wrap around the leg for circulation directly after surgery. Also bed exercises to pump ankels to keep blood flowing and healing.
See online the precautions and pre evaluations before surgery and after. Any THR center will list all the precautions, and care. And list of aides available for purchase to make recovery easier after surgery.I also purchased a motor driven air pump with a air bladder wrap around the legs designed to pressurize the leg and keep blood flowing in op leg. Available on amazon. google aides for recovery for hip replacement surgery. They all come in kits available again on yeap Amazon. Your doctor will give you a list and booklet for all these things required.
I have not encountered anyone with DVT needing thr . Generally your heart and hip surgeon work together for optimum care during and after THR.
Best advice is try to go to hip therapy to help learn exercises to keep muscles in shape before surgery which will give you a edge when recovering.
What type of entry is your surgeon planning? There is anterior posterior and many others types of techniques/ implants and robot assist with X-ray and MRI during surgery to be help assist proper leg length and more. See surgeries on line. Very helpful to get a picture of what can be done to keep us hippies mobile!
Keep in touch let us know what you can share regarding your surgery . Lots of help and experience on this forum.
Happy Holidays 🎄

You should be VERY wary of a surgeon who suggests metal on metal as these have caused so many problems and have resulted in many people having to have then n taken out due to metal poisoning.
