because of incontinence problems i was advised by a doctor to cut down on caffeine.i stopped it completely for two days and drank decaffeinated tea only.after two days i had a splitting headache which I would describe as having my head split open, it was awful.i went back to doctor who told me it was withdrawal of caffeine symptoms and advised me to gradually reduce my caffeine intake.
i only have one cup of caffeinated tea a day now and that is first thing in the morning, the rest of the day i dring de caff
the difference it has made is amazing, i can now hold on for 3 or 4 hours before wanting to empty my bladder.i am going to stick to decaff tea and coffee from now on as it has made such a difference.i have also given up eating chocolate which im told contains caffeine which is a known bladder irritant.hope this info helps other sufferers from incontinence.

Good to know you are finding a difference and its great to see helpful posts. I am going to try the decaf options from tomorrow, not sure about the no chocolate but wouldn't hurt the waistline. I have been experiencing what I think are bladder spasms. I had tvt surgery 8 weeks ago and touch wood that is going well and even attempted a star jump today with pleasing results. However I think I have picked up bad bladder habits. I suddenly can get an urge to go (especially when the key goes in the door). I feel then hard to hold that urge - sorry for the info. Often I feel my bladder isn't always full so can't understand the strong urge. Not sure if I had this before the surgery or not as probably confused it with my stress incontinence problems. Still I see the consultant again in 4 weeks so see what he thinks. I feel half way there in getting back to normal. Sadly the wine and gin also irritate but not sure I can give these up. 😉. Anyone with helpful advice for urge problems or life after tvt gladly welcome. Somedays I feel I am getting back to being me but then I have a bad day. Just wanna go a day without thinking about my bladder. Good luck to you.
