Ive only visited this site a couple of times, but it has really helped me and my daughter Colette who is 12 and had her operation for SUFE last June 04. The only problem at the moment is she has been complaining of backache right at the bottom of her back I suppose her tail bone would be the precise place. We have been to the Doctors today and they have referred her for an xray for tomorrow to check just in case its got anything to do with her hips. We are really concerned because everything has been brilliant up to now. Colette has been taking part in all sports except trampolening which we didnt think was a good idea. Now the doctor has told her to stop taking part in PE at school at least until we have has the xray results. Hopefully the back pain is nothing associated but you cant help worrying. Colettes knee and arm joints click an awful lot aswell so at the moment she is feeling a little low. We will let you know how we go on real soon. Has anyone else had similar problems???

Hi Colette and Mum, Sorry to hear about Colettes current problems. Hope you get it sorted. It is great to hear that Colette can take part in all sport. Tasmine was a keen netballer before all this happened and is really keen to get back to the courts. Tasmine is now walking on one crutch and with none around the house. The only problem that Tasmine has at the moment is swelling in her left ankle. Her physio has told her that this is quite normal. Tasmine is going to Wales on 22nd May for a Year 6 school trip and I am worried sick about it. I am sure that she will be fine and the teachers are really keen that she can go. I think it is 'worrying mother syndrome'!!!!

It so nice to speak to parents and patients who have been through the same thing.

Take care all, Sam & Tasmine Castle

    Hi Sam and Tasmine,

Im Heather, Colettes Mum. Just wanted to let you know that the doctors did a series of xrays due to Colettes back pain and they have said that everything with her hip seems fine and ther are no obvious reasons for the pain. They all seem to think that the back pain in just 'growing pains, and that they should soon stop. We are due back at Aldery Hey on 13th June for a six month checkup and we are hoping that Colette is then placed on a 12monthly referal if everything is ok. Colettes class at school(Year 7) is going to Wales on a short adventure holiday 23rd May but I wont let her go. She has worked so hard and I just could let her go off and risk doing any damage not for the sake of a couple more weeks. I know the teachers say they will watch her but I just worry that when surrounded by her friends, she would be persuaded into things. We go abroad next week anyway for our holidays so Colette doesnt mind too much. Colette is now riding her bike vigorously, and running with our dog. It does my heart good to see her returning to full fitness. The only thing she still wants to do that I wont allow just yet, is trampoling, but I know they when we go to the hospital in June she will ask the question and wait the answer with baited breath. She make me laugh because she never mentioned trampolening before having her hip pinned!!!! It was good to hear off you and we are glad that things are progressing well for Tasmine. Colette didnt get any physio help at all and has basically just done what we thought was the right thing - which only you know what you can and cant do. Dont worry you are not alone in the 'worrying mother syndrome' take care and best wishes.
