Don't just stop taking them, try to reduce the dose slowly until you get a balance that works for you

    good luck

I've been on it for approx 18 mths at 50 mgs, I resisted increasing the dose and it's worked for me. You do need to give it a good month - 6 weeks to get into your system and take full affect. Maybe 100 mgs is too high a dose for you ? Now I'm in a better place I have been weaning myself off by cutting to 3/4 of a tablet for a month then to 1/2 a tablet for the last six weeks. I'm going to stick with a half another month then go to 1/4 for a few weeks before stopping altogether. At each reduction it has taken my body and mind a few weeks to adjust.

About 6 mths ago I tried cutting down by half and got lots of horrible withdrawal affects inc violent nightmares. This time I'm taking it very slowly to minimise withdrawals, after all there's no rush. These are strong mind altering Meds so need to be used carefully, if you look on this forum under sertraline 'withdrawal effects, do they ever go away' you will see there are horrible consequences of stopping too quickly.

theres a lot of info on the web regarding sertraline usage

      take care

    hi

2 weeks is not long enough for the meds to take effect, but as you say you have stopped tacking them then, do it over time or you may get the withdrawl symptoms , talk to your doc about whats happened they will know more.

    Hi Craig,

I took Zoloft (Sertraline) 100mg from the age 22 to 32. During that time, my ability to orgasm was dead. Like a light had been switched off. Just as a quick background, it wasn't easy for me before I started the meds, thus the entire time on them, I didn't realize that they were rendering it completely impossible.

However, after a year off the drug (which was absolute hell to acheive due to the horrific withdrawal symptoms), so when I was 33, I met my future husband, and let me just say, everything worked just fine!

Unfortunately, around age 35, the depression started creeping back in. Knowing the sacrifices I would have to make if I were to go back on the drug, I hesitate for a while. I finally gave in at 37. I took 75mg for several months, sometimes going on and off, just to feel the intimacy with my husband that immediately disappeared upon taking the drug.

At 38, with slow weening, I am down to 25 mg per day. Although the irritablility is starting to set in, I am determined to experience pure bliss with my husband again.

Once I'm off this time, I will never go back. There has got to be a better way.

A few things that I've experienced that doctors will not recognize:

-Meds start working from day 1. There is no 2-3 weeks adjustment period for me. It just works, almost immediately.

    -Severe sweating while sleeping.

    -Insensitivity (like a mental numbness)

-Increased sensitivity to alcohol (effects are felt faster, liver easily damanged)

-Awful withdrawal symptoms - including but not limited to:

    --Severe irritability

    --Confusion

    --Vision shifts/dizziness/instability

    --Brain zaps

--Strange sound in head every minute or so, like a brush stroke or scratching

--Intense emotional responses to anything touching, happy or sad

If there is anyone out there reading this right now who has not begun taking anti-depressants, I urge you to try something else. I have given up so much, sacrificed and lost so much.

If I could go back to 22, I would go to India and change my mind.

Best of luck to all of you. Trust me, I feel your pain.

      Hi Don.

I'm no doctor, but considering comparing the experience I've had with the drug to yours, it is clear that this medication is not a good fit for you.

Of course upon starting the medication, there were side effects, like sleeplessness and a sort of high feeling. But I had much less anxiety and irritibility right away.

I'm under the strong conviction that if you are going to make the sacfrifices that these drugs require, then you should not have to put up with feeling worse.

      Good luck to you!
