Jammed Finger or Something More Serious?

Approx. 3 weeks ago I've had an accident involving slipping and hitting my hand (index finger knuckle) against the asphalt ground and also proceeded to create a laceration wound at the seam of index finger from the palm side as I was carrying a glass. The wound took 2-3 weeks to heal and it actually healed very nicely given the size and placement. The problem though, is that I have hard time straightening my finger. At the moment it naturally stays bent at almost 90 degree angle. I can bent it a bit more and straighten it, but not more than to 45 degrees unless I help it with other finger. But using just will or sheer muscle strength, I cannot move it more than that. The finger is still quite swollen between intermediate and peoximal phalange ( I hope I am writing these right, I am no expert). I am trying to exercise the finger to retain the mobility but I am afraid the finger could stay this way. Perhaps I wouldn't even mind if I was not an active guitar and bass player and I cannot quite enjoy these with this injury. I am going to visit my GP tomorrow (so far I have been visiting chirurg/surgeon) I would be very thankful for any opinions here too.

Looks like you may have badly torn a tendon so you have what is called a Mallet finger, caused by the tendon healing and contracting. Your finger should have been xrayed and depending what other damage has been done it should have been put in a splint to prevent this happening.. I think you may need surgery on that finger to correct the damage.
