Jaw osteomyelitis

Help? I'm new here and I'm losing my mind over this osteomyelitis. My infection started in May this year after my hyoid and tongue suspension surgery. I suffered with months of oral antibiotics and pus drainage before they finally did surgery to scrape the infection off my jaw bone and remove scar tissue. I was put on 10 weeks of two different antibiotics by Picc Line, Hyperbaric Oxygen, and wound debridement. My doctor noted that my infection marker in lab work was elevated but chooses to take the wait two weeks and recheck. In the mean time my jaw hurts to touch. Any encouragement would be appreciated.

Are you seeing a disease specialist in the meantime?? And also are you taking antibiotics orally on a daily basis?? If you're not you probably should be! I have osteomyelitis in my spine and I also went through the pic line antibiotics and dibridement surgery. They did 8 spinal fusions to get rid of all the infection. Now I'm home after spending 105 days in the hospital learning how to walk again. The surgery almost paralyzed me! Now I take antibiotics on a daily basis. They say I may have to take them forever it just depends on how my body does I guess. If I try to go without taking them for several days my body gets real sore again and then I start back and the soreness almost goes away completely! I don't think I will ever be without a little soreness!

    Hello.

I’ m so scared that I have osteomyelitis in my maxilla. I had a root canal treatment October last year on my left upper 1 because of abscess. After RC I had horrible time ( my gums they were swollen, low grade temperature, mimics of sinus infection) I was treated with metronidazole and penicillin for 1 week. Tooth got better I had check- ups with few dentist and every single one confirm that tooth is fine.

This year in August I developed cough , then sinus infection- antibiotic for a week. Starting having pain in my right eye for nearly 2 weeks – again antibiotics for two weeks. Then my UL1 start annoying me so few dentist’s trips , x rays only to be told that my teeth is fine. After few weeks I had relief with teeth but I started having sinus pressures in my forhead.

After 3 months I still have sinus pressure, my teeth is still sore and so my jawbone. My upper lip is a little swollen and I have strange sensation in my nose. I had a panoramic x-ray, 3 days scan, blood work everything is OK- the only thing what they found is thinning of bone between my upper on left & right- place where I had abcess.

I don’t know what to do – no one wants pull up that tooth because looks good ( 3 weeks ago I had reendo – still painful 24 /7 ) . I went to my gp and told her that I my have osteo – she nearly laugh at me and said there is no chance- I look healthy my teeth looks good as well so not worry but when you are in pain 24/7 for few months and something like never happened to you before you just KNOW that something is not right. Also notice that my upper lip is a little numb and swollen.

    I hope you’re better now.

So sorry for my grammar but English is not my first language.

Best of luck to everyone suffering

    Aga

Bless your heart!! Have you gotten anywhere with getting some help. Having my wisdom tooth extracted 28 years ago started my osteomyelitis. I suffered 18 years with severe left jaw pain and migraines before getting diagnosed. You definitely should like you have all symptoms of osteomyelitis. If you haven’t found help, search for someone that specializes in facial pain and trauma.
