Recently diagnosed with PMR. Started on 15 mgs prednisolone. Have read how GCA can occur and have noticed fir three mornings jaw pain when eating breakfast left side same side as the PMR. I've looked at the symptoms of GCA and I'm scoring 1 out if 5. Dr said I needed ESR crp fbc visc u & e in turn contacted the Rheumatologist and appointment tomorrow morning! Dr told me to up steroids to 40 mgs. I am grateful I haven't got a severe headache but the more I read about GCA I am scared.

I never had much of a headache at all, then got jaw ache, swollen arteries at both temples, sore scalp. I then started with double vision. It is scary, but you will be o.k. as it is being treated. I started on 40mgs. and I have always wandered if it was the right dose (this was 5ys. ago). Everyone is different, so stay positive if you can and best wishes.

Don't be scared, have the tests done to confirm your diagnosis! I have had GCA and PMR since I was 63 and I am now 68. I had pains in the back of my head and blurred vision- no jaw pain! My GCA was confirm via temple biopsy on both sides of my head- a fairly simple procedure. Each individual presents differently. Listen to your Dr. ! I almost went blind. If you do have GCA do not ignore any course of therapy prescribed. I am presently living a normal life, but it can be along trip to get back to normal.

I only had PMR but a friend had GCA ( no PMR ) and was started on 60 mg. He was an electrician so sight very important. He continued to work throughout his treatment which lasted about three or four years ( would have to check that ) and made a complete recovery with no recurrence. He later had complicated heart surgery and lived to enjoy life into his mid eighties. It sounds as thought you were diagnosed and treated promptly so that is good news. Best of luck.
