Joint pain on methotrexate

Hi everyone, I have been on mTX for psoriasis for about a year now, with my dose being 20mg for the past 4 weeks. I am suffering with pain in my left knee, is this related to MTX? And what can I do about it if it is? I appreciate any advise.

In my experience, methotrexate induced further arthritis pain, and did not improve symptoms for me. Is this helping with your psoriasis? Doctors experiment with medications, not knowing for sure how they will affect you. It may have been coincidental that this arthritic type pain has started with taking MTX, but based on my personal experience with pain in my joints increasing once on this medication, my thoughts are thst they are connected, as MTX is known to lower our immune system, which can contribute to new conditions evolving. I would be open with the doctor in terms of sharing you would like to replace the MTX with a different medication for your psoriasis, based on.your research of the immune system lowering drug, and be very proactive with building up your immune system, staying away or highly limiting sugars, gluten, dairy, animal proteins, and building it up with fresh veg and fruits, nuts, fish oil capsules, kifir beverage as a probiotic(in small increments to start building up to 1/2 cup daily, with 9 1/2 to 10 hrs of sleep nightly.

I have been/was on MTX for 18 months for mucous membrane pemphigoid but I stopped taking it about 6 weeks ago because I could no longer tolerate the pain in my hips.  It woke me up at night.  It still wakes me and I sleep very badly as a result.

My Derm appt is next week, 2 months late.

The MTX was helping to suppress my blisters but it had started to work less well.  I have found it impossible to get in touch with my Consultant and just received messsages from his secretary, telling me that if I was in pain, to see my GP.

Have you been able to speak to your Consultant?  How long have you been on the 20mg dose and how long have you had the pain?

I have been on 20 mg for 4 weeks now. I'm not seeing my consultant until June. Think I might go to gp. I've had the pain for about 2 weeks but today it's actually ok. I'll see how I go over the next couple of days hopefully it is just temporary!

Can you contact your Consultant?  He might want to reduce your dose again.

See how you get on over Easter, then if you have the pain again, telephone your Consultant's secretary for advice.
