Jones Fracture

So 4 days ago I was running and ended up twisting my foot and fracturing my 5th metatarsal. Basically by the pinky toe area... Went to the hospital 3 hours after it happened, already knew I wouldn't be able to walk on it so I didn't even attempt. When I got X rays done the doctor confirmed I had a jones fracture and surgery might be possible. Fast foward about an hour later, the ortho surgeon came to talk to my mother and I. He basically showed me my X rays (not a major fracture btw, guess it's just the area I fractured) and discussing my recovery time. I would go in to see him 2 weeks later for an update on how/if it's healing and possibly return to work by then if I feel comfortable putting some pressure on it. However, I'm looking at 6-8 weeks and if not recovered by week 12 he would perform surgery, which he did say he thinks is very unlikely. He put me in a boot and crutches and I am putting absolutely no weight on the foot. Right now it is blue in that area, which I'm assuming is normal. Everytime I'm sitting... which is 95% of the day now... I am elevating it. When I was washing my foot before, I accidentally gripped the area that's fractured and oddly enough it didn't really hurt. I can also move my toes without it hurting. I've read tons of articles online and a lot of stories but I'm posting mine so maybe others have some insight and could share their experience or even some tips. Praying mine heals super fast, even though I know it is unlikely for a jones fracture.

    Hey !

I broke my 5th metatarsal over a year ago now. 6 weeks in a hard cast with no weight bearing. I was very worried about my bone not healing and didn't look at the x-rays before the surgeon looked at it. He said it was perfect and that I could start walking again. I had to do physical therapy, relearning to walk was painful and quite complicated at first. I restarted to run 2 months after my cast was removed. I was scared to start running again and lumped a little at the beginning.

Take your time and don't try to rush

Do not put weight on your broken foot until your doctor allow you to do it.

Broken bones need time to heal.

You will have to do physical therapy after your bone has healed.

    And stay positive.

Hopefully you will have a quick recovery !

Yeah I definitely don't want to rush or force myself into doing things. The doctor said I might be returning to work in 2 weeks depending on my own level of comfort when walking on it. My job is a minimum of 4 hours on my feet walking around, with only 10 minutes sitting. I'm hesitating at that idea, I'm not sure if that's such a good idea. I know he's the doctor, I'm just scared.

      Thanks for sharing!
