Just a little more about hyperbaric oxygen therapy

I think I didn't properly present this treatment option in my previous post. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is used world-wide for the treatment of wound care, in all sorts of medical conditions. It's a standard of therapy for things like bed sores, burn wounds, and skin grafts. It just hasn't been applied until recently to HS, as I was told, mostly in Europe and Asia...but it's making it across the pond to the US. My dermatologist said nothing of it. My plastic surgeon said nothing of it. Only when I went to a wound care specialist at a major research center was it brought up as a possible treatment for HS. Its appeal is that it is a noninvasive therapy that increases and improves blood flow in the body by exposing the patient to pure oxygen and air pressure levels equivalent to 45 feet (about 13.7 meters) that increases healthy tissue regeneration. I think it offers an exciting possibility for the treatment of debilitating, advanced HS. I'm going to start a six-week course, covered by my insurance, in a few weeks. The hope is to encourage healing in my existing HS lesions so that -- hallelujah -- they go away or at least lessen in size prior to surgery, thereby making the surgery to excise them less extensive. It will also likely be used after surgery to aid in the healing of my surgical wounds. I've done my research, and it makes sense to me. I'll keep everybody posted about my experience. I'm told not to expect any results until the third week or so. My we all find our own paths to reducing and eliminating this horrible disease.

I have stage III HS in my right armpit and right side of my groin. I have golf ball size lesions in both areas that drain almost constantly and don't heal. Additionally, some lesions have joined and tunneled. Lots of scar tissue too.
Last year I had surgery on my left armpit, which was also stage III. I had all the affected tissue and sweat glands removed, and the surgery was closed with a skin flap from my back. Unfortunately, I can't have flap closures for the upcoming surgery (long story)...just open surgical wounds that have to heal on their own.
