Just a question for those with genital herpes (who have symptoms/get outbreak)

Hello!

I am wondering if an outbreak always affects ALL areas involved in the herpes infection. For example,

Say your first outbreak involved (I'm going to use a female example) sores on your left labia, right labia, and on the right side of your anus, will recurring outbreaks always cover ALL of these areas? Or might you find that, during some outbreaks, it's only one of these sites that are targeted (so, just the left labia, or just the right labia and right side of your anus)?

I hope that makes sense, and thanks in advance for your replies.

I had 3-4 lesions in various vaginal locations during my first outbreak, but my recurrences have nearly all occurred in the one same location (which was one of the original sites). This is fairly standard, since recurrences are milder for most people and often comprise a single lesion. Also, recurrences tend to stay in the same or similar location, but can "migrate" after having it for a while (I usually see comments about this for those who have had it for years).

How interesting! Are the various locations confined to a small region? It's not usual for lesions to appear in vastly different locations each time. That would be very confusing!

From what I understood only the areas where the virus is shedding will be affected and won't be the same every time. Now remember though that the virus can shed and an outbreak not occur.
