Hi. You must be so relieved and am sure a bit apprehensive. I was too. Now 5 weeks down the line, am overjoyed, can't remember much the early days as probs. Def having no 2 done when Cons says yes. I still have sleepless periods at night but am not doing anything taxing ATM so maybe that's the reason. It is no longer pain which keeps me awake. Whoopeee. Good luck to you. Looking forward to hearing from you postop. Thoughts and prayers with you

What kind of help is most most useful?  What kind of shape are most people in the first couple weeks?  I am going in in three days and our house is in chaotic mess with reno which was supposed to be complete but various no shows and late shows  have resulted in major delays.

I think for each person you ask you will get a different answer.  Here is mine:

      1) cut a clear path between where you will sleep and your bathroom

      2) understand regardless of how well everything goes your nerves may be on their very edge at times - for me I have simply let my family and or nurses know when I have been feeling "p*ssy" and asked for a "break" on how I may be acting at those moments.  Luckily they have been few and far between but quite noticeable.

      3) you will be tired, as everyone else has said, listen to YOUR body.

      4) Let others help (this was a toughy for me).  They WANT to help and you will need it.

      5) We do not need to be anyones heroes, if you need more meds take them.  If you cannot do something, say so.  If something seems "off" mention it.

Best of luck, you will be fine and the house can wait LOL

    Fantastic news Lady C,

I had mine last Monday so we'll be just 8 days apart in recovery.  I actually sleep well (so tired it's easy) and because I have an alarm set for each time I need to take my meds.  So alarm goes off, I take meds, I go back to sleep (or P).  I just told my daughter it reminds me of sleeping between contractions LOL

For me the worst part has been the occasional but debilitating nausea.  My only recommendation is if you have nausea while in the hospital make sure you get some meds for that before you get home.  I no longer wait for it to happen, I now take nausea meds as soon as I wake up.  It is not from the anesthesia but either the opioids or the opioid constipation, either way I never know when it will happen.

Other than that I am doing so much better than I could have ever imagined.  I have been pleasantly surprised how good I feel and how mobile I am (my doctor said I would be surprised and he was right).

I wish you the very best outcome and recovery.

Cannot wait to hear from you - when you are up to it of course.

FYI I had the anterior NOT the anterior lateral so no muscles were cut with my operation.

Hiya Kebra, So glad you have had your op and it all went well! I'm not sure which way there doing my op, I will ask though. Do you heal better if they don't cut the muscels ?

The healing is the SAME regardless of which procedure we have - my understanding is that the recovery phases are just different.  The way my doctor explained is that at week 12 we all will feel exactly the same, however, for the first week or two I may simply be more mobile.

Either way we all have to get back our strength and that simply takes TIME.

Hi Kebra, really glad it's going well for you. Sorry about your nausea, hope that improves soon. All the best, Judith
