Just asked my doctor for 10mg will this help with anxiety?

I was put on this medication yesterday at 25mg.  I slept great but woke up with really bad grogginess.  I could not function well.  Went back to bed and slep another 4 hours.  I called the doctor to see if he could call in 10mg,  He says he will after I told him about the day after feeling.  My problem is I suffer from insomnia and anxiety and a little bit of depression.  Will the 10mg help with this?  It seems that I have read the higher doses help.  I am confused.

    Hi,

I would always advise to try natural remedies as these pills should be a last resort.

Have you tried mindfulness ( good app called Calm ), practice breathing etc.

The pills are very subjective to each and everyone. Sadly they worked well for me but 20years later I’m hooked on these pills and have probably done untold damage to my body. If you decide to give them a go I would suggest to only take for a few months and slowly reduce the amount you take.

    Good luck.

I take 20 mg for migraines and it is supposed to help with anxiety. I haven't really noticed any change as far as the anxiety goes. I am also trying meditation

    Hi,

I highly suggest you start slow, otherwise you will be very tired, sleepy and unable to operate your car or do things around the house. You should start with 10mg and slowly to 15mg and 20mg and 25mg. I was given this medicine for the same thing, anxiety. I felt the same and I was told to cut back and start slow, people react differently to the medication.

You did the right thing by speaking to your doctor.

    Good Luck

Did it help your anxiety at all? I started at 10 mg then moved up to 20mg. I still don't notice a difference . I see my neurologist in Dec. and see if he wants to increase it

Yes it did, it takes a little time and I think they is why you started at 10 and will increase to 25. It helped me a lot. I am taking it for the same symptoms. After I had my twins life took a turn on me, little of everything, depression, insomnia, anxiety and migraine.

Thanks for your reply.  I am on day 3 of Amil.  I find the 10 doesn't do anything for my anxiety and depression.  I keep wondering if I should go to an SSRI but I am scared of the side effects.  I am getting great sleep on Amil.  How long did it take before you went to 25?  On my first day my doctor started me on 25 but I was the one telling him I wanted to go to 10.  Now I wonder if I should ask him to go back to 25?

Think amitriptyline works differently for everyone and you should trust your instincts.

Its definitely worth trying 10mg. I managed a good night sleep on that dosage and found the higher dosages made me very lethargic. These can affect people differently.

I'm selling boxes of 25mg so I can buy other medication. But I like amitriptyline it gives me a great sleep and is good for anxiety..

Amit can affect everyone differently, plus there are alot of factors involved.  I am very sensitive to meds so 10mg knocked me out and I slept well on it.  25mg had me sleeping 12 hours regularly.  It can help with depression and can relax you which helps with Anxiety.  That grogginess is normal on these, and it can take time for your brain and central nervous system to adapt so its also normal to have some side effects.  You could try 20mg, but be careful chopping and changing dosages too quickly can also give you more side effects.
