Just been diagnosed...

So I have just been diagnosed. I have severe abdominal pain, no appetite, blood and mucus, feel completely drained and have lost 8lb in one week. The weight loss has stunned me and wondered if anyone else has lost that much weight in a short period of time? I have been prescribed prednisolone foam which I have not used yet because I'm a little bit scared to use it in all honesty. The abdominal pain is horrendous, does anyone have any suggestions on how I can ease the pain? Thanks in advance

When I get as bad as that, I resort to a course of steroids! Yes, weight loss like that can be quite common! And abdominal and lower back pain! Speak to yourGP asap, you may need to try various other remedies too, however not all suit everyone! Good luck, but don't wait to have it attended to! Hellish condition, I know!

Hi there! yes i'm normally very steady with wieght, but Im in my 3rd flare up and this time I've lost 6 Kilos (13lb in the last week). In fairness i could have done with loosing a bit of weight anyway! but would have perfereed a month in the gym!! The weight loos for me is because i barely eat anything during a flare, through, not being hungry, but also worrying about how that food is going to make me feel a few hours later.

I have found that for me, eating only soft, gut freinly foo is the best way to control abdo pain. "Its gonna be different for everyone" is a phrase youll hear a lot whe it comes to Ulcerative colitis.

You may find after a few used the foam will calm things dowwn pain wise for you. Give it a go, it propbably wont be as bad as you think.

Thank you so much for replying to me smile it's reassuring to know that I'm not alone in this!

I went back to the doctors many times and they gave me prednisolone 35mg per day (oral tablets this time) which work for a short period of time.

All the symptoms are still the same but with an added bonus of constipation which is a delightful addition to every thing else.

I'm going for another colonoscopy next week so will see what happens after that xx
