Just been diagnosed

Hiya

I was just diagnosed with PR by my GP a week ago. Up until then I had never heard of it before. My GP initally thought that it was chicken pox. And the herald patch was initally diagnosed as eczema!

The rash has developed over the past week and has covered my neck, torso, back arms and part of my legs.

Thank goodness for this site and for the tips I have read. Going to buy some head and shoulders and try a few sunbed sessions to see if it helps. Going on holiday in 5 weeks time and hoping it will have calmed down by then. The rash on my chest and abdomen is red raw at the minute and the centre of the lesions look shiny. I hope that doesnt mean it is going to scar.

My pharmacist recommended calamine cream as opposed to calamine lotion as it does not dry out the skin like calamine lotion does.

Glad to hear that Im not alone with this and if anyone fancies a chat about it feel free.

    Me again

Well after 2 days of using head and shoulders shampoo on my body it has definately taken the raging redness out of my rash already. The rash is starting to dry out now and my skin is very flaky.

Ive read about people using Bio Oil - is this to stop any scarring?

    Hi fawkes

Sorry for the late reply, I haven't logged in here in a while.

Just wanted to let you know, that PR does not scar. You would have to itch so badly that you caused scarring yourself for it to leave a mark. I know it's impossible to believe right now, but when it disappears, it does so without a trace.

Hope this is of some comfort.

I've just bought some Bio Oil too, reading the label it sounds as though it could help. Its on offer at the moment in Superdrug !

By the way, I forgot to mention, never mind about 'young people' being the more usual sufferers, I'm 56 !
