Just been diagnosed

So with the help of this forum I actually self-diagnosed myself as the doctor seemed to have no idea what was going on with my eyes (even after 6 appointments!) I managed to get my eyes checked by an eye specialist who said I had MGD which had caused blepharitis however that was minor (although if he had seen it a week ago I doubt it would have been called minor).

I've bought the wet ones and a hot compress, baby shampoo, the optrex eyedrops- I guess my question is really about the massaging of the eyelids- what is the best technique that you have found? Also, I found that the swelling and itchiness was worse in my lower eyelid; I haven't really had much trouble with my upper ones. Does this mean that the bleph is worse in the lower ones? Sorry, completely new to this and have basically lost faith in my GP to ask him any of this.

Also, the skin under my left eye is absolutley haggard- deep lines and loose skin. Please tell me this will go away as it looks like I have aged 30 years on one eye!

    Hi elinor,

I've read that bleph is naturally worse on lower lids although I've ended up with meibomium cysts on my top lids so I'm not so sure if that's true!

I've been told by the latest consultant I've seen, to rub firmly along the eyelid margins - always from the outside to the inside.

As for being haggard, my eyes have suffered from flare-up after flare-up, I'm afraid.  I've been told that they look "lived in"!  I regularly lament the loss of my thick eye lashes.  If you can get it under control sooner that I did then I'm sure you stand a chance of helping your skin.

    Good luck with it :-)

      Dear Haircrazydaisy,

There was one woman who had Blepharitis for 20 years. Her name is Jill and I think she is on this site too. She used the Wet Ones hand wipes (US) and she said her lashes grew back in. Her doctor said he didn't think they would. She said she gets compliments on them now.

If you are not allergic to shampoos, handwipes, detergents, fabric softeners, or lanolin the Benzethonium Chloride in the wipes kills the staphylococcus on the eyelashes and lid margins.

Tea Tree oil kills staph too. That is what is used on the machine BlephEx.

I was able to wear mascara and kill the Blepharitis at the same time.

      That involves throw away wands.

      Hope this info helps you.
