Just been diagnosed

I went to the Dr thinking I had thrush as it was itchy and a bit sore she said it was Herpes there and then and was very unsympathic as I was highly devistated and upset at this news. I went to a GUM clinic for a formal diagnosis. They have taken swabs and I am awaiting results although its pretty clear I have it. I havent engaged in any sexual activity since 3 years ago, which made the news even more devistating. I dont know if I have type 1 or 2 yet still waiting on blood test to come back. I am just in so much pain. I seem to have loads of sores as well as some swelling and its so painful to sit or walk or do anything I took for granted beforehand. I am drinking so much water so peeing isnt too painful but general day to day movement is so painful and feels like it is never going to end. Symptoms started on Saturday it is now Wednesday and it seems the sores have brurst but reading it can take up to 20 days before it all heals is so hard to hear as I dont know if I can cope with this pain for 2/3 of a month! Please tell me that subsequent outbreaks dont produce as many or as painful sores it seems like I am totally covered in them, not sure if that is normal??

To avoid pain depending how bad it is cool baths will help and as bad as it sounds weeing in the bath is better too!
Drink plenty of water, take vitamins and keep your immune system healthy as much as you can as this will help to reduce and hopefully help get rid.
I've been taking oregano herbal tablets and they have seem to help reduce my sore much quicker (that's just within a week).
I hope you get your results back soon so you know what's going on Hun! Just remember your not alone with this, something I have learnt and has helped me.

The doctor that read me my results seemed very careless almost disgusted and ready to get off the phone with me .. Even more so made me feel worthless.
My outbreak (only had one so far) last about 8 days .. (5 days were the most excruciating pain I've ever managed to be in in my life).. I noticed that a&D Vaseline helped me greatly . That was like my best friend .!
The outbreaks were so painful that I wasn't able to wipe or clean myself in the shower ... My boyfriend had to to help me. I still managed to go to work ironically .
I had a bunch of sores down there and it's just now start to heal over and bring my normal skin color back ...
Since its been long since you were sexually active the person that you were sexually active with .. Did you tell them ?
Try and get a clue of where it's coming from ?
I always thought symptoms came 1-3 weeks after you contacted the virus ..
Don't get to down now ..
There is suppressive medicine you can take that controls your outbreaks and all that
How are you currently feeling ?

Although I had a lot of sores, and swelling, it only lasted from Sunday, and began clearing up on the following Friday (I wasn't expecting it to be that fast)
All I did was keep them clean, I used soap in the shower that didn't have heavy fragrances, and washed with hot water. Then I would use toilet paper (it's absorbent) and dried them up. I also used hot water & Epsom salt once a day, which was soooo painful if I used too much salt! I ended up just using a few pinches and mixed it in with hot water and ran it over myself in the shower.
I also wore comfy underwear all week.
I know that a lot of people's outbreaks last much longer than that but mine cleared up fast. So far it's been like two weeks and everything is normal, no swelling redness or sores. And no scars from the painful scabs that show up after the blisters burst
Good luck I know how much pain you're in & I hope your syntoms clear up asap!❤️

Advice for anyone with a bad outbreak:
-Epsom Salt baths are amazing. Help dry out the sores and promote healing. Use warm water in the tub, not hot.
-Try to drink a lot of water. I made the mistake of barely drinking anything at all because it was so painful to pee, but you need too. As soon as I started drinking water regularly, they sores started healing better.
-I had a huge ulcer right below my urethra, so peeing was excruciating, even in the tub. What I found worked was sitting on the toilet leaning my head all the way forward and raising my butt in the air so your pee is streaming down instead of over the sores. Works like a charm!
-Do not touch the sores. At all. Not even with a wipe or towel.
-Wash your hands often
-Clean the surrounding area around the sores with some baby wipes. I got a huge pack and those have been a life saver. Clean the goop off, flush them down the toilet, wash your hands. You can buy a little pack and carry it with you if you have to be somewhere for a long time (like work) and just excuse yourself to the bathroom every once in a while to clean up.
-Warm showers, don't use soap on ulcers, it can irritate them.
-Keep them dry by using a blow dryer on low and on cool. Feels nice and works well.
-If you can avoid walking around, do so. Lay down as much as possible and get rest. The sores get worse if you are walking around a lot because of friction.
-ibuprofen and lots of it.
-Only wear cotton. Leggings, sweatpants, etc. No jeans or polyester. If you can go commando, do it. It allows air to circulate.
I think that's it! Good luck all!

One thing that has struck me on this website is how quickly folks go from their initial question (where they are often in absolute agony -- physical, emotional or both) to posts/answers where they are providing encouraging support and suggestions on taking care of symptoms.
Take some solace that you are not alone, and will be able to get support and comradery here.
Shame on your physician for not at least having a basic understanding that the news is devastating to you. Mine down played it as well. If they are going to be non-chalant, they could at least encourage us to find support groups, etc. Isolation is not a good thing with a new diagnosis, as we all have learned.

Thank you for the comment. My symptons are getting much better. Today was the last day of my anti viral and I think I am over the worst. I can now pee, move generally live without being in agony. Occasionaly I will move and get a sharp pain but overall a much better outlook at the moment.
When I went to the clinic the nurses there were lovely it was just the walk in centre nurse. At the clinic they see this everyday and were very supportive.
I still worry about the future and what will someone think when I have to tell them but worrying about that now will only make the outbreaks worse/more frequent so I guess I just have to try and not think about it until it becomes an issue I have to deal with.
This forum has been so helpful and full of advice. Just need to keep everything super clean and dry until the sores have fully healed but they have all burst and the yellow tops have all gone just the final healing part now, light at the end of the tunnel.
Hopefully I will get my results back soon and know which type I have as well, not that it makes too much difference but it would be nice to know.
