Just been diagnosed and not sure about anything

Hi. I am 30 and I have just been diagnosed with moderate to severe depression, I have been given Citalopram 20mg and been referred to a counsellor which I am now waiting for an appointment. I have been like this in the past but it was put down to stress and anxiety due to the job I had at the time and I had just come out of a long term relationship which had been awful - this is about 4 years ago.

I was just wondering how people felt at first about their diagnosis and also whether anyone found seeing someone helpful when there isn't anything you can pinpoint as the cause of how you feel?

Thank you

I was put on meds too.  The doc wanted me to go to a counselor but I refused.  I do not believe in that talking shit.  However i do know people who benefited well from it.  My diagnosis was severe depression.  I went from having parties and cookouts at my house every weekend to putting up a gate and closing myself off to the world.  It just depends on the individual.  I really had nothing to talk about.  It was just a state I was in.  If you are up and open to it, Try it.  It is not for everyone.  Good luck.  I found talking a little annonymously here was far more comfortable.

Yeah that is exactly why I am unsure about counselling because I don't feel like I have anything to talk about really!! I am open to giving it a go because I will try anything to feel better but at the same time I feel like I am taking up an appointment that someone could really benefit from if that makes sense! Thank you for the reply though, really appreciate it.
