Hi Phil, sorry to hear about your troubles. I am a newly diagnosed person with acid reflux and felt somewhat the same before my diagnosis (could it be something else). I was actually very surprised when I left the MD's office with the diagnosis. I just thought it was strep or something similar and of course your mind wonders. I wonder if your still eating wrong and that what may be your issue or if you don't have acid reflux at all....I have heard that some MD's can test you for acid reflux. I am interested in this myself. Here is a long/detailed answer I gave someone else, but when I was within my first few days of being diagnosed I would have wished it would have been shared with me. Google the phrase I added below. This forum does not allow links without being reviewed first. So my post would be hidden for days.

****So very sorry to hear about your troubles. Things will get better and stay positive. I agree with moon regarding the book. Eggs can sometimes cause a reflux in some people your better off knowing what you can eat and being real strict. I have followed the Dropping Acid basic diet plan for about a month now and within the first day I felt better. It just a matter of knowing what you can eat and what you can't. Keep a log of what causes you issues or not. While you wait for the book Google,"chewfo dropping acid" it will give you the info. you need while you wait for the book. In the meantime, I will also give you an idea of what I eat. Breakfast is old fashioned oatmeal with milk 1%. Don't buy flavored oatmeal or quick. Just the full oat raw. A large spoonfull of Chobani non fat plain yogurt I eat after I consume the oatmeal. With oatmeal I drink 1% milk with ginger root powder added. Lunch is Frozen veggies with ground turkey and pasta or potatoes. Dinner @5PM is oatmeal bread (dry not mayo or butter) with no preservitive chicken slices. I add some baby carrots on the side. I drink 1% milk with it and I add ginger powder to the milk. Make dinner the smallest meal. Don't lay down during the day and stop eating 4 hours before going to bed. If I need to snack I have a gronala bar (dry non chewy) the old style at around 3PM.  All food mentioned can be purchased at Walmart. Book can be purchased via Walmart dot com or Amazon....After dinner I take 1/2 of one tab of Citrate Slow Release. It's a calcium supplement. For me it calms the gastric juices. The first few days I took one tab. This is what I do, but everyone else should check with their MD first. Also, don't bend over but rather squat to pick things up. Prop up the head of your bed or sleep on a wedge. If neither is possible sleep on an inclining set of pillows. One under your lower back, two under your upper back and three under your head.  I personally have stopped all excercise until I feel I have my reflux under control. Still waiting. If you can find Evamor alkaline water get it. If not look for Fiji. Wear loose fitting clothing and don't cheat on the diet. Looking forward to you replying to us back here with some good news.

Hi there, thanks fir that. I was also diagnosed with gastronteritis and my while belly was sore to touch. Diaharrea for days at a time.

My eating is brilliant now, eat loads of vegetables ie asparagus, drink only water an no fizzy drinks. No fried food or chocolate or crisps. Dont smoke or drink. My reflux is really sore and I think the doctors are fumbling around in the dark to be honest.

Ah if that is the case (Gastroenteritis) count yourself lucky. It's solveable. However, I can imagine weight loss would occur at a high rate due to fluid loss and loss of appetitie. If you find yourself that you also have acid reflux not from the Gastroenteritis then keep that website handy. Things you think are healthy to eat can be a reflux nightmare.

So do they think the acid reflux will go after the gastroentirotis is sorted out?

Hey there Phil, very sorry your having these troubles. I do experience alot of the symptoms you are having but I wanted to ask you about your cholesterol. I am 33 and my doc recently told me that my bad cholesterol is too high and my good cholesterol is too low. I noticed that as my ibs-constipation got worse my cholesterol levels were affected. Im starting to believe there is a connection. Any thoughts?

Had that Gastroentirotis for a month or so, but the GP has never said if my reflux will go when am free from the Gastro. I suspect not as I was on zantac before but I have suspicions as I was put on strong medication to get rid of the Cellulitis and I think it burned my lining of the stomach..... just a thought. My pain is sore 2hen the reflux kicks in. Sometimes I have nothing to eat and I get the pain. Any suggestions guys.

      Hi bigdipper,

my cholesterol is 6.19 and the gp told me the high level is 5.0. He scaredvme as he told me I was only getting away with it through my age, if I was 55 he told me I wouldnt. Since then my reflux has intensified so I wander if worry has anything to do with it?

I had pain in my chest last year. I had been away on holiday in Paphos Cyprus. Two weeks after my return home, I had pain in the middle of my chest (sternam area). My heart rate was fine, I visited dr and he said it was Heartburn, caused by reflux, I was drinking lots of water. Cut out all caffeine drinks, no tomatoes or any of the acid forming foods. I had difficulty swollowing, around Christmas time I was really depressed. When it first started medication prescribed was Omeprazole, I did not get relief with this and was changed to Renitidine, much better for me. I also drank and ate spoonfuls of 10+ and even 20+ Manuka Honey, I felt that helped me. I had this from last September to March this year. I was given an Endoscopy making sure, there was no ongoing problem. I was very worried for many months, never sleeping on my right side, as the stomach position in our bodies allows easier reflux. I am now free of reflux not on any medication. Sometimes it can be a germ. I think I picked up some germ, causing problems in my stomach.

    Hope that helps.

      Hi Maureen

Glad your free of this. I wonder if I picked up a germ when I had gastroenteritis which is causing the reflux. All sorts goes through my mind and seems to make it worse. Did you get any medication that took away the germ?

      Cheers

Hi Phil. I am in a similar position to you and started with this about 4 years ago. I had nausea and stomach pains, went to the docs and they found I had gallstones. I had my gall bladder whipped out and that was supposed to be the end of my problems.

After that things were just as bad if not worse...............went for an upper endoscopy and was told that I had severe inflammation of the stomach and that it must be helico bacter. I went for breath tests etc. but they all came back negative. 4 years on after my third camera I still have inflammation and chronic symptoms but no medication has ever worked for me. The best I was ever given was Antepsin but unfortunately this is no longer available in the UK.

The thing is, I am quite similar to you.........I am a worrier, I am 39 and this issue (which according to the doctors is now bile reflux, not acid reflux and why no PPI's work) makes me feel that there is something more seriously wrong with me and that ultimately it will morph into cancer and cut my life short and with a 6 year old daughter, that really stresses me out.

Having read your symptoms and likened them to my own, I wonder if stress, anxiety and depression could be something that we both have issues with. I have read that the stomach is hardwired to the brain and that your stomach issues can affect your brain and vice versa. I do know that I am under a lot of stress at home and at work and that my predisposition to be worried about things cannot be a good thing.

I can tell you that my symptoms have disappeared from time to time.............I even went around 8 months with no symptoms at all and I though I was cured! Alas it returned. That makes me think that I may have anxiety/menatl health issues but be unaware I just wondered what your thoughts were on that?

From a physiological point of view I am visiting the doctor next week to try and get an appointment for Ph testing through some health insurance as my next specialist appointment is not until March next year! My quality of life is suffering but I am determined now to get answers from the Docs and also consider looking in to my state of mind as well as the physical side of things.

      Hi Paul,

I to worry a great deal about everything. I had a job outside work for a football club, loved it but was under a lot of stress. Quit it last week thinking it may help but no it's as bad as ever. My throat is like sandpaper and got flu symptoms at the moment. My cholesterol is high which I worry about and am not even that fat. Heart palpitations as well and broken sleep.

I can't continue with this and when I speak to my wife she says you have reflux end off.

It's the not knowing what to do is bothering me. I want answers as am just not myself.

Anxiety and stress a big thing contributing to this Paul.

I remembered reading that Manuka Honey was known for killing, Heli pilori bacteria. Usually this is taken with Antibiotics also. As my Dr was convinced it was just reflux, he did not go down that line. But I did continue with the. Manuka it is expensive, the higher the number the more potent. I stayed conscious while having my Endoscopy, so I could see for myself the state of my Oesophagus and stomach.  and just had bit of inflammation . The diet for reflux is so bland the germ probably lost its strength. Especially as you have gastritis, sounds likely your same as mine.

Good luck to you Phil, I hope all goes well.
