Just been diagnosed with herpes - devastated, embarrassed and desperate for advice.

Im always very careful during sex and always use protection, however did not think that oral sex could result in me contracting herpes - big mistake.

I had a bit of pain on Monday night which wasnt too bad - i had sex that night and by the end of Tuesday night i was feeling more pain and itchiness.

On Wednesday it was becoming worse, and thursday afternoon i noticed lumps that looked like pimplea and ingrown hairs - one or two to start with and by friday i had about 10. I have also had fevers and flu like aches and pains. I went to the doc first thing this morning and she said straight away that it was herpes. Shes sent off a swab, blood test and urine sample to confirm but she is 99% sure.

Im on valtrex twice a day for 10 days and once after that for 1-2 months.

The agony im experiencing is unbearable especially when i urinate.

How long does this initial outbreak last, and how long does it take for the pain to start to subside after starting valtrex?

Any advise would be great, im really struggling with the pain.

I was careful too, however, I never knew that there were people that are asymptomatic. What good did that do me? Nothing. People can also get herpes even while using condoms too.

It took a bit for my pain to subside. To help lessen the burn while peeing, drink a lot of water to dilute your urine. I also found putting a barrier cream or aloe with Lidocaine on my ladybits helped a lot! It reduced the pain and I could pee somewhat comfortably.

The breakout pretty much runs its course. Taking Valtrex doesn't shorten the period of time it's going to take.

      Thanks darana.

How long did it take for your blisters to open to sores? Mine dont look like they have but i dont think i can handle much more pain, this is beyond excruciating

Mine never opened or scabbed over. They just went away. I had my moments where I broke down crying due to the pain. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

When I washed in the shower I found baby washcloths were the gentlest. I'd spray the liquid aloe with lidocaine all over after I blotted everything dry. It helped numb the pain.

And was the pain at an excruciating level the whole time or did it subside a little? If so how long did it take to ease up?

      I really appreciate your advice.
