Hi R44GNR. Firstly, well done for seeking help. It takes a lot to open up and get the help you need. I've been on sertraline now for a year and have found it extremely effective in controlling my depression and anxiety. I will say that it takes a few weeks for you to feel the full effects of the medication, so please stick with it and see how you go. I wouldn't say one day you go ''oh wow i'm happy again'' , it works subtly over time, but I notice I am more calm and able to deal with experiences a lot better than before I was on the medication. All the best in your recovery, Amy.

Hi Amy - Lou, thanks for the reply,  you're right it did take a lot to finally seek help but I'm so glad that I have.

Glad to hear that the medication is working for you and im looking forward to starting to feel a bit better. Hopefully my anxiety and depression will become more manageable and my anger will subside.

      Thanks again,  Rag

    Hi rag,

defo good call. Absolutely agree with reply below...... Give meds time. They may make you worse initially, but after 2-3 weeks you'll begin to notice the benefit. They are an amazing drug... Better for me controlling depression, but certainly keep anxiety far enough away.

Hi andy25,  I'm looking forward to feeling better and if it takes a few weeks to kick in its still a million times better than the amount of years I've tried to hide my depression and anxiety.  I feel slightly better just by making the decision to seek help and my wife seems really happy now that the ball is rolling. Thanks for the reply.

Dunno ins and out..... But I did some self help too...... Read "the happiness trap" Russ harris. And check out the internet there's some good stuff on Portland psychology site.  Take it easy, it won't just disappear, don't wait for it too..... But by god it gets easier. Trust me.

Hi, I can say Sertiline worked really well for me. I was lucky enough not to have side effects when I started,or at least if I did I don't remember. Good luck to you

    Hi

I have been on sertraline for 8 days now and a few minor side effects but nothing unbearable. I found that I don't feel so hungry and have to remind myself to eat - I have lost a little weight so that's made me a bit happier as I tend to snack more when down.

I also was taking the tablet in the morning but found I was bit sleepy during day so last two night have taken it in the evening about 2030 hrs and found it helps. Also get mild indigestion from tablet so I take it with food and that is working well for me.

The first few days I found they made my body feel slightly tremoury but that has gone now.

Feeling them starting to help with the depression a bit so am hopeful they will help me. As others have said everyone is different so are our bodies in how they react to medication.

All the best and may the medication help youein the way u hope it will .

    Best wishes smile

      Hi,

I'm on day 9 now and like you I'm really tired during the early afternoon so I think I'll start taking them at night too, see if that helps.

I still don't think I feel any different but I know it's early days.

Today is the first time I've had a side effect ( terrible head ache)

Thanks for the reply and hope you continue to feel a bit better ☺

      Hi Julie,

How are you getting on with the medication?

Hopefully you've not had any side effects and are feeling ok.

I found that I feel slightly better for opening up about my problems.

       Keep well

      Hi Amy,

I'm on day 11 now and the only side effects I've had is a day of bad headaches, and my anxiety has gotten pretty bad but I've been back to the doctors and he said that's normal for the first month but it will improve.  So I hope he's right.

I went to see a lady at the counsellors yesterday for an assessment and she is going to sort out the counselling I need.

So it all seems like it's going in the right direction and hopefully with time I can start to live again.

How are you doing 1 year on with the medication?

Wishing you all the best and look forward to hearing from you again.

Hi Rag, that's brilliant news! It definitely is a step in the right direction on your road to recovery. It takes a while for the medication to get into your system and for your side effects to go, so im sure in no time you'll be feeling the benefits. I had a really strange urge when i first started the medication to clamp my teeth together, but this only lasted a few weeks.

I'm doing great with my medication thank you. I started to reduce my dose in half a few months ago, and i am now just starting to half it again.

Thank you, and same to you. Keep me posted on how you get on won't you!

      Amy
