Just been told I possibly have herpes and freaking out entirely

Hi,
I'm 26 and female and just been told a few hours ago I may have herpes. Had the swabs done on what I guess would be called a lesion? (The most painful thing oh my goodness) and was given local anaesthetic gel to help numb the area as well as antiviral tablets. (The gel hasn't really helped at all unfortunately and time will tell with tablets)
My first thing is I have experienced this before and there was no scabbing, the skin was red and very sore but it just disappeared after about a week which doesn't seem consistent with herpes. The second thing is this time is pretty much the same and both times it's only been to one side of my vagina. I'm wondering if anyone else has a similar experience? It hurts like hell if I touch it but it's mostly just raw and red. I've also noticed my symptoms got milder after trying a thrush treatment for a week and then four days after the treatment it got way way worse! My poor body does not know what's going on right now
I'm pretty devastated because if it is herpes the only possible person I could've got it from was someone I knew who sexually assaulted me a few years ago and a physical painful reminder of that is pretty difficult to come to terms with. This being said I don't have the test results back yet so there's a chance it could be something else (but what?) but things aren't looking good at the moment and I have to wait four days to get my results back

Which antiviral tablets have you been given and how long are you meant to take them for?

Valtrex, doesn't seem to be doing a lot and was also given anaesthetic jelly but the only thing that seems to help is thrush treatments, don't know if that means anything. Pain seems to come and go, it'll get better while I do thrush treatments and then come back with a vengeance, it's driving me mad!

I only found out I might have it a few days ago too! I am also waiting for my results and this is the first I have thought mine may me more than an a bit of irritation or thrush. So when they said herpes you can imagine my shock. I've spent a few days worrying and losing my mind about what this means for the future but know you're not alone!
I hope the results come back okay for you, let us know. I have to wait two weeks for mine but am finding anti-viral tablets are helping

Aw, glad I'm not alone! I've been told it's remarkably common so not quite as afraid, I feel like most people wouldn't really disclose their status because of the stigma but really it's more treatable than other conditions because we know much more about it. I do hate the waiting
Ugh
