Just been told it can’t be my pancreas as my blood test is to good is this right ?

Ok so I’m 31 years old I’ve been having issues for over a year and a half with pain in my right ribs left ribs and center left of my chest. With most of the pain being next to my sternum the pain is mostly a low 3/10  dull ache that never really goes away. its  worse with spicy food or alcohol as the pain comes back almost instantly stays the same for the next day or two but never really goes away. I’ve not done a normal stool in about 6 months always yellow  loose and very regular.

The doctors did think it was my gallbladder So booked me in for an ultrasound. they found a small polyp no stones and said it’s nothing to worrie about as bloods were also good. I pushed for more tests as I know my body and somethings not right. But all the doctors keep telling me is that it’s gastritis and I’ve had 3 blood tests all results say I’m healthy.

I wasn’t satisfied with That  and when  I put into consideration the amount of alcohol  I consumed in my youth(a few beers with mates after work most nights for years) I thought  it must be my liver so I paid for a fibro scan and that came back as 6.1 a very good score with the average being 7  with the scale going up to 60 the lower the score the better the liver.

I’m sure this pain must be my pancreas as what else could it be?  as it’s worse on my left side now and is high up in my chest the pain can go through to the back When it’s  really bad it can travel  to my lower back with tho odd twinge in my abdomen it also hurts when I breath in but only on the left side next to my nipple.

So I raised my concerns with the doctor again and he said my blood test score for my pancreas is lower than normal and it’s definitely  not my pancreas as the numbers would be very high

AMYLASE.   27.   IU/L   28 /100

I have no idea what these numbers mean but the doctor circled them with his pen and said there’s  no chance it’s your pancreas causing the problem as the numbers would be higher is that correct?

Ive now got to take in a stool sample and do another blood test. I’ve been on omeprozole for two months no better then went onto  lansoprozolefor a month to help the. Gastritis but it’s not improved .

I left the doctors today with them telling me yet again is gastritis I never get heart burn so I can’t see how that can be right.

I’m not sure where you live but a pancreatic specialist is where you need to be.

I got sick on vacation and in ICU for 3 weeks.  They almost killed me !   As soon as I was able to I was flown in a medical plane to MUSC in SC where I lived.  They just about have me healthy.  If someone is not specialized in pancreatitis they seem to just punt !!!

Must of been really scary ! I take it you had no warning signs then as you were on vacation?  Did you have a massive attack of acute pancreatitis right out of the blue or did you have earring signs?  was you already seeing a doctor about abdominal pain ? ....... I hope you find a way of coping stay strong 👍

Here’s what I tell everyone who suspects pancreas problems.  Stop drinking and smoking if you do either of those.  Eat a healthy, low-fat diet.  No processed foods.!  We all seem to get told the same thing.  I’ve had every test there is and was once told they suspected pancreatitis.  I wish I would have known about pancreatitis 2 years sooner so I could have started taking my health seriously.  Not one stinking doctor told me to stop drinking or fix my diet.  I don’t smoke.

Absolutely no drinking at all.  It could kill you.  I’ve lost 40 lbs since Oct 1 and am in malnutrition.  I’m doing my best to eat. I’ve been told no red meat, no fried foods and a long list.  I am trying and testing foods since trying so hard to gain weight.

Pancreatitis is a very serious health issue that can take your life.  It almost took mine and I wasn’t even a big drinker. They have no idea what brought mine on.  Terrifying to say the least.

HI thanks for the reply. I hope you find a way of coping with this terrible illness. Can I ask you a few questions? I take it your we’re visiting a dr for the 2 years before diagnoses. What were your first symptoms? As I take it you was not bed bound like a typical case of acute pancreatitis or it would of been diagnosed sooner ? What tests did they perform that missed the pancreatitis? We’re your bloods always ok ? How did they eventually diagnose it ? All the best for the future stay strong 💪

Your symptoms sound similar to mine..except i have had the yellow stools going on 4 years or so....just recently i started having pain in chest and below the sternum towards the left...intermittant throughout the day.... I am about to go in for a colonoscopy...but I am going to push for an MRI just because all my symptoms point to pancreas...
