Just checking in with a feelw questions

Some of you might know I have posted on here occasionally over the past year or so. I always value people's replies and thoughts. I received a diagnosis of CFS last Oct after a raft of tests. All said my body was fitting fit for a 56yr old. The only small indicators were that I had very mild low lymphocytes and a double mutation of the MTHR gene which can leave you predisposed to CF or a host of other problems for that matter. For the initial six months I had mild to moderate symptoms, followed by largely mild symptoms with the occasional day or two of moderate stuff, however the past 3 weeks have seen an unfortunate return of moderate stuff. Very disheartening especially as I had been back at work for 7 months with small light activities such as swimming and a few jogs of say 200 metres. I just wanted to feel my heart beat again normally.

Question should we only excercise if we are completely symptom free?

Question as we are often told there is essentially nothing wrong with our bodies, it is simply our bodies somehow telling us we are unwell....we certaintly feel unwell....can we do further damage if we excercise? Is it better to sit and do nothing or should we stretch and do small strolls on the verandah for 2 or 3 mins, as I do every hour or so when I cant do much else?

Rambling post I know....

I do light exercise, but if you can't manage some exercise, stretching is really important.

    Hi Charlie,

I think the research points to building up exercise. The cfs/me specialist nurse told me to strip things back, find your base line and then add activity. Your base line is where you aren't constantly getting payback.

Cfs/me is all about balance. make sure you rest as well as do things and do things in a more gradual pace.

Thank you, all great advice I know. It is often the randomness of it all that complicates matters. Payback is never uniform is it? Mine seems to happen well after I do something....although last yr there were occasions when I ended up in hospital after pushing it. This was a time when I had little idea what was going on.

      Hi Charlie,

No, payback is sadly not predictable. The idea is a little at a time is the best way forward. I carried on trying to exercise near the beginning and don't think this helped at all but I wasn't away what I had at that point. Be gentle with yourself and build up gradually .
