Just diagnosed.

Diagnosed with lung cancer today.   As if OA, diabetes and untreatable PsA (mutilans) isn't enough.   Sheesh, it never ends - not happy.

    Hi Tony,

Sorry to hear that, it does all seem to come at once.

You will need a lot of strength and support, we are here for you. If in pain get that sorted.

PET scan today, appointment with the surgeon on Friday and probably surgery next week.   Worst part is a week in hospital for physio and recouperation - boring.   And of course lots of arguments with nurses about controlling my diabetes again.   One plus is I opted for a private hospital this time, I'm over public hospitals, I think they just get the dregs of the medical fraternity.   Assuming the margins are adequate I may not have to have chemotherapy but with my luck, they'll probably miss some of the growth.   I don't know what stage I have, never thought to ask, but the Doc did say if it wasn't removed I would succumb to it in a couple of years.

Im so sorry to hear this, May i ask what your symptoms were ?

My fingers are crossed for you! i hope it all goes well for you !X

No symptoms, the Radiologist picked it up during a routine RA chest scan.   The chest specialist thought at first it was just a fatty nodule, 6 months later it had grown so he sent me off for a lung biopsy.   Bingo, cancer.

I'm so sorry to hear that ! I really hope you get better and are cancer free in the near future. I know this may seem hard but the only thing that has gotten me through all of my health issues has been my humour and support from my family. Laughing will help! Ill pray for you and hope that you will get better X

Doesn't really matter gettingfree of it, it'll return, cancer is like that.   Good thing though, I don't think I'll be sorry to leave this world, it is truly terrible.

I saw the surgeon toaday, in to hospital next Wednesday for an MRI, surgery on Thursday and then a week or so of recoup and physio, very painful he told me.   I'll be losing 20% of lung function but he tells me as I have 100% capacity I won't notice it.   Fancy having 100% lung capacity at 66 after smoking 50 a day for 30 years, the chest clinic Doctor was astounded when he saw that.  Also picked up a hot spot in my neck, could be more cancer or just inflamation from psoriatic arthritis.

    Hi Tony,

I know you are feeling in a bad place at the moment, please read on:

I was 12 years old in 1962, my mother had been ill off and on for a few months. Eventually it was decided to do a biopsy of one of her lungs. In those days a lung biopsy was considered serious enough of an operation. My father went to see her the next day, only to find that they had removed one of her lungs. It was because when they operated the whole lung was cancerous, it was carried out by a surgeon called Mr Leeghy at Charrington Cross hospital. My mother was given 6 months to live.

She surprised everyone and went on for another 30 years.

Your outlook on the world is understandable, but perhaps if you visited the children in Manchester hospitals so terribly injured this week, your outlook may change.

    Best wishes.

    Mike

Since I've been diagnosed with cancer I think I've a right to feel overwhelmed and a little scared, sorry if that hurts your sensibilities and if it seems a little underwhelming to you compared to the kids who suffered so terribly in the latest Islamic atrocity, well that's an easy fix, don't read my posts.

    Hi Tony,

Great to see that you still have some fight in you, I thought you may have been giving up reading your last post.I was diagnosed with skin cancer last March and after 4 biopsies were found to have malignant melanoma in my left arm. This was removed with a fair portion of tissue just to be on the safe side. I also had to have a section of my pallette in mouth removed but thankfully that was all clear.

I also have cervical spondylitis with stenosis and myolepathy , now judged to far advanced for operating on, so could be paralysed from neck down if I have a fall of mishap I wasn't trying to rubbish you Tony, I just wanted to poke the bear to make sure it was up for a fight you are.

I will continue to read your posts, long may you keep posting them.

    Mike..

Nothing to do with giving up.   I'm pro euthanasia, always have been; unfortunately, my government isn't, they sit back and make laws that seek to prosecute and torture us for doing with our life what is ours to decide.   I want to enjoy my life, when I can't I shall depart - my life my decission.
