Just diagnosed

Hi everyone I was just diagnosed with hsv 2 and this has turned my life upside down, I am so confused. I have been in a relationship for 6 years no cheating on my part and from what he’s saying no cheating on his either. How could this have happened?!! My doctor said that it’s most likely I was just infected because I just had an outbreak for the first time. I feel so uneducated about the disease and don’t know what to do. Could it be a chance that I had this for years and didn’t know?? Or does all signs lead to my bf??!

If your outbreak was very recent and confirmed by swab, then quickly do an IgG test for herpes within a month of it. If still negative, then you were recently infected. Usually first outbreaks are indeed associated with new infection. Has your bf offered to get tested? He should, and make sure he does the IgG test, not IgM.

Yes he’s going to get tested but his appt is all the way in November, I called and made it for him he couldn’t get one sooner. I know  for a fact I’ve had no sexual activity with anyone since me and him started dated which was six years ago. But I hate the fact that he’s kind of acting as if this situation is solely on me it’s driving me crazy.

Did you do the IgG test within a month of your outbreak? That will tell you if it is recent or not. As for your bf, it makes no difference when he tests if he's a carrier, although it's frustrating to have to wait till November!

I have a script and will go Monday morning for all my labs.... yes it’s very frustrating! I’m just so stressed and emotionally drained from this!
